The Question of the Ages Fully Answered! Fourth study
— A brief exposition of Psalm 15 —
“He that backbiteth not with his tongue, nor doeth evil to his neighbour, nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbour,” verse 3.
In verse 3, the Psalmist returns to highlighting that which is not found in the character of those who shall abide in the tabernacle of the Lord or who shall dwell in His holy hill.
I. THE CHARACTER OF THE CHRISTIAN IS AS COMPLEX AND AS ELABORATE AS IS THE GLORIOUS NATURE OF GOD.
That is because the true Christian, upon his regeneration, has become a ‘partaker’ of the nature of God. “According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust,” 2 Peter 1:3-4.
Being a’ partaker of the divine nature’ is not to be understood as the Christian being ‘deified’! This is impossible, of course. The nature, perfections, and glory of God, are incommunicable to creatures. Rather, it means that by way of resemblance and likeness, we partake of the divine nature. The new man, being formed in the heart in regeneration, takes on the image of God, and bears a likeness to the image of his Son. It is the beginning of a gracious process by which the image and likeness of believers is more and more changed, from glory to glory, through the application of the Gospel, and the promises of it. “But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord,” 2 Corinthians 3:18.
John speaks of that final transformation in 1 John 3:2. “Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.”
This Psalm therefore sets out the important features of one ‘born again’ from above.
II. GOSPEL HOLINESS IS SEEN IN A BELIEVER’S BEHAVIOUR TOWARD HIS NEIGHBOUR.
The term ‘neighbour’ appears twice in this verse three though all three statements within the verse relate to the believer’s attitude toward his neighbour. Both words which appear as ‘neighbour’, though different in the Hebrew, refer to those close by.
1. He backbiteth not with his tongue. It is usually with the teeth that we bite! But how hurtful and wounding can be the tongue. ‘Backbiting’ is a much more serious sin than many imagine! The word ‘backbiteth’ comes from a Hebrew root signifying foot. It most surely indicates a person who ‘foots it’, goes from one house to another, spreading ill reports. Click to read more…

Report: school did not do enough to prevent the abuse

Victims of a former school welfare officer who was convicted of sexual assault have told BBC News NI their school did not do enough to prevent the abuse.
So reads the headline on today’s BBC Northern Ireland website.
It is not the first time a headline of similar import has appeared in the press of recent years. This time it is a reference to events in Lagan College, the much hailed ecumenical answer to every problem in the world of education!
Man-made ‘havens’ provide no safety for children since ‘sinful man’ is the problem in all the world’s difficulties!
It is only as we order our affairs in accordance with the Word of God that we may experience that spoken of by David.
“The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me,” Psalm 23:1-4.
Here is the text of the report that appears on the BBC news site.
Neil Beckett groomed the schoolgirls and used his position as a welfare officer at Lagan College in Belfast to access vulnerable young women.
He was found guilty on 17 counts and jailed in December. Click to read more…

New Pope - old perversions !!!

Rome is unchanging in its corruptions and perversions.
Spiritually, utterly blind ecumenical writer, Alf McCreary, writes under the headline: ‘The Catholic Church seems to have made a wise choice in Pope Leo XIV’
What a fool the man is and all those who likewise have hailed the arrival of the new pope.
To the day that system is destroyed by Christ, it will remain – “The great whore . . . with whom the kings of the earth have committed fornication, and the inhabitants of the earth have been made drunk with the wine of her fornication,” Revelation 17:1-2.

The arrogance of attempting to bring light with a lamp of darkness!

Pope Leo XIV has celebrated his first Mass as the new pontiff
He tells cardinals in the Sistine Chapel that he hopes his election can help the Catholic Church bring light to the “dark nights of this world”
This is one of the headlines that a blinded and beguiled press used to trumpet the arrival of the new occupant to the office in the ‘Roman Catholic Church’, whereby he is henceforth blasphemously named, ‘The Vicar of Jesus Christ’!
For centuries, the occupant of this office has been deemed by Bible-believers as ‘that Antichrist, that man of sin, and son of perdition, that exalts himself, in the Church, against Christ and all that is called God,’ (Westminster Confession of Faith, Chapter 25, Section 6).
That is the proper view of the man who now calls himself ‘Pope Leo XIV’.
The many titles the pope embraces and the claims he makes of himself and his office totally vindicate the use of the Confession of Faith’s definition of him.
He was born in Chicago as Robert Prevost and he is the first North American to be elected pope. Donald Trump, in keeping with his usual fatuous mouthings, called it a ‘great honour’!
Equally deluded is the leader of the Church of Ireland. He is reported in the Belfast Newsletter as declaring that he is ‘rejoicing’ over election of new pope!
But then he is but part and parcel, along with the new pope, of that evil amalgam which is the beginnings of that which will emerge soon as:
‘MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH’! (Revelation 17:5)
His opening gambit is in keeping with Rome’s blind arrogance and bloated self-glorification. He states that he hopes that the Catholic Church can bring light to the “dark nights of this world”! Click to read more…

Free Presbyterianism is fast abandoning the separatist stand ??
This article was shared with me by a concerned and deeply troubled Free Presbyterian.
It is a warning to American Baptists that the witness of separated Biblical Christianity is fast disappearing in that land.
We may take the truths of this article and place the following heading upon it and it is true of the cause of God here in Ulster:
FREE PRESBYTERIANISM IS FAST ABANDONING THE SEPARATIST STAND TO WHICH GOD CALLED IT AND WHICH SAW GOD’S ABUNDANT BLESSING FALL UPON IT IN DAYS WHEN IT WAS FAITHFUL TO THAT STAND!
The likes of Danny Roberts, openly a neo-evangelical and anti-separatist, is welcomed into Free Presbyterian pulpits and representatives of the party supporting murder and terrorism, Sinn Fein, welcomed and lauded in a Free Presbyterian meeting organised to support the ‘Gaelitising of Northern Ireland’. Furthermore, worldly music, long opposed by our church, is now all too evidently employed in some congregations and open opposition to such is resisted and condemned.
This drift began with the sad decision of Dr Ian Paisley in 2007 to enter a ‘power-sharing’ deal with Sinn Fein/IRA.
These things and others of the same ilk have taken place and they are either excused or ignored by the leadership of our Presbytery.
It is all too evident to many Free Presbyterians that there is an abandoning of our historic separatist stand and that can only lead to the judgment of God falling upon us for such rebellion.
I challenge the Moderator and Clerk of our Presbytery to deny what I say and show why I, and many others, ministers and elders, are wrong in our concerns.

Why Most Fundamental Baptist Churches Will Be Emerging Within 20 Years

“A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished” (Proverbs 22:3).
We are witnessing a great blending and merging among every type of church, from fundamentalism to Catholicism, which will culminate in the totally apostate harlot “church” that will be aligned with the antichrist (Revelation 17-18). Click to read more…

The Question of the Ages Fully Answered! Third study
— A brief exposition of Psalm 15 —
“He that walketh uprightly, and worketh righteousness, and speaketh the truth in his heart,” Psalm 15:2.
This second verse sets out to answer the question posed in verse 1.
The answer is continued in the rest of the Psalm but verse 2 deals with it in a positive manner. It tells us in an affirmative way what marks the character of the one who ABIDES and DWELLS in God’s presence.
I. THE HOLY PERSON HAS A PARTICULAR WALK.
“He that walketh uprightly. . .”
1. Every step that the Christian takes is markedly different from that of the world. As Paul exhorted: “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God,” Romans 12:2.
The Christian cannot but be “in the world” but they are not “of the world”.
That concept simply means that in the world we actively participate in the legitimate activities of its everyday affairs; living a normal life, and engaging with others, including those who may not share the same beliefs or values.
But there must be a maintaining of a separation from the world’s sinful influences and values. These are so often associated with materialism, greed, and worldly pursuits which dominate business affairs and must be constantly guarded against. We must not be governed by worldly standards or judgments. The unregenerate person will rarely hesitate to act unlawfully or dishonestly, at least to some measure, in order to gain profit! The excuse that is often offered is , ‘Sure, everyone does it!’.
That may be so but the Christian MUST NOT do it. Click to read more…

UPDATED below: Sabbath breaking . . .
THE FOLLOWING NEWS ITEM APPEARED IN ‘THE BELFAST TELEGRAPH’ OF FRIDAY 2ND MAY.
Evangelical Presbyterian Church hits out at Belfast pilot scheme extending Sunday trading hours
What I noted with despair and disappointment is that there is no mention of the desecration of the day ordained of God as a day termed in this New Testament era, as the ‘Day of the Lord’!
John the Apostle wrote from the island of his exiled sufferings for the cause of the Saviour.
“I John, who also am your brother, and companion in tribulation, and in the kingdom and patience of Jesus Christ, was in the isle that is called Patmos, for the word of God, and for the testimony of Jesus Christ. I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet,” Revelation 1:9-10.
It was an essential part of the Ten Commandments that one day in seven be observed reverently.
“Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: but the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it,” Exodus 20:8-11.
The Lord ‘hallowed’, or made holy, the seventh day in the Old Testament era, as a commemoration of the finishing of His six-day work of creation. In this New Testament age, we find Christians gathering on the first day of the week, in commemoration of another ‘finished work’ — that of the Saviour’s work of redemption as was indicated by His rising from the dead on the first day of the week.
This became the ‘Christian Sabbath’ or rest day, with the same reverence shown to it and observed by believers as was commanded of God for the Sabbath Day of the Ten Commandments.
“And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight,” Acts 20:7. Click to read more…

'Holy aggression!'
“But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith. Then Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him, And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord? And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand,” Acts 13:8-11.
I am inclined to believe that this response by Paul to the evil withstanding of God’s message of mercy as he and Barnabas sought to win the deputy of the isle of Cyprus, Sergius Paulus, to Christ, was the cause of John Mark leaving the apostolic band and returning to Jerusalem and the eventual sad division between Paul and Barnabas (Acts 15:36-40).
Sad
Barnabas was wrong. I think that is evident from the fact that his name never appears again in the record of the Acts of the Apostles!

There can be no doubt that there was aggression in Paul’s response. Many feel that ‘aggression’ (a readiness to stoutly confront an opponent) is wrong in a Christian.
Sad Lack
Personally, I feel that there is a sad lack of ‘Christian aggression’ today on the part of some Free Presbyterians, in the face of the ever-increasing attack by the devil and his agents, against God and His Word and His honour is plainly visible! Where is the enthusiasm shown by David when facing Goliath? “And it came to pass, when the Philistine arose, and came and drew nigh to meet David, that David hasted, and ran toward the army to meet the Philistine,” 1 Samuel 17:48.
Something of a distancing of themselves from the zealous actions and protests back in the 1960s is somewhat evident within the ranks of Free Presbyterianism. Closer links with the camp of the apostasy and a putting of ‘clear blue water’ between themselves and the bold and zealous protests and witnessing of former days is the inexplicable desire of some!
The great prophet Elijah, he who was privileged, along with Moses, to appear with Christ on the Mount of transfiguration, said: “I have been very jealous for the LORD God of hosts: for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword,” 1 Kings 19:10.
The words, “I have been very jealous” stem from the Hebrew word meaning “zealous”. It must be remembered that the Lord says of Himself: “Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me,” Exodus 20:4-5.
The Hebrew word used of the Lord in the above verse is from the same Hebrew source as the word Elijah uses of his attitude in 1 Kings 19:10. The Lord is pure and holy in His jealousy, while Elijah’s would have been somewhat tainted by the sinfulness of his nature. As a son of Adam, he was, like David, born in sin and shapen in iniquity (Psalm 51:5).
Nevertheless, there is obviously a kinship between the feelings of the Lord and His servant with regards sin!
We are after all, commanded to be holy like the Lord. “For I am the LORD your God: ye shall therefore sanctify yourselves, and ye shall be holy; for I am holy,” Leviticus 11:44, (1 Peter 1:16).
Foolish
I realise that ‘zeal’ can lead to folly and we must guard against it. John and James, the ‘sons of thunder’, were guilty of such and rebuked by the Lord. “And sent messengers before his face: and they went, and entered into a village of the Samaritans, to make ready for him. And they did not receive him, because his face was as though he would go to Jerusalem. And when his disciples James and John saw this, they said, Lord, wilt thou that we command fire to come down from heaven, and consume them, even as Elias did? But he turned, and rebuked them, and said, Ye know not what manner of spirit ye are of. For the Son of man is not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them. And they went to another village,” Luke 9:52-56. Click to read more…
