CHRISTMAS – The Facts and the Fiction

xmasA look at what many believe to be a ‘Christian Festival’
by Rev. Ivan Foster

Scripture makes clear why the Son of God was born of a woman in Bethlehem nearly 2000 years ago. “For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.” I John 3:8.

He came to destroy the very works which are the chief means used by the majority in Christendom to celebrate His birth.

‘Christmas’ – a Roman Catholic term referring to a celebratory Mass in honour of Christ – is that section of the year in which pagan activities are freely and unashamedly indulged in and all in honour of the incarnation of the Son of God.

The ambiguities of Pastor James McConnell

Patstor_mcconnellIt is a little disconcerting to say the least to watch Free Presbyterians taking a prominent role in supporting Pastor James McConnell, as he appeared in a Belfast court on the charge of making “grossly offensive” remarks about Islam in his pulpit back in May 2015.

Undoubtedly, ‘Free Speech’ is on trial at this time but that vital issue will be subverted and any support given will be seen as an endorsement of James McConnell and his rather dubious beliefs and practices.

HOW AND WHAT CHRIST WOULD HAVE HIS MINISTERS PREACH TODAY

Reflections on Revelation chapters 2 and 3.

By Rev Ivan Foster (Retd).

bible_imageThe book of the Revelation was penned by John under the inspiration of the Holy Ghost at the end of the 1st century AD i.e. some 1900 years ago.

The essential character of Christianity, its message, its philosophy and its code of conduct, NEVER CHANGES for its “author and finisher” is Christ the unchanging and unchangeable One.

As we briefly consider something of these two chapters in Revelation it is essential that we, and preachers especially, bear this in mind.

These two chapters contain messages to the seven churches in Asia: Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamos, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea. These churches were all in the area which we now call Turkey.

The messages were direct communications from the ‘Great King and Head of the Church, the Lord Jesus Christ.’

They were intimate and detailed, indicating the knowledge the Saviour has of His people.

That in itself should cause us to tremble. The favourite lie of the devil is that “The LORD shall not see, neither shall the God of Jacob regard it,” Psalm 94:7. These chapters show that to be a great deception!

I have but three main points which I desire to make and they are directed chiefly at ministers today.

Can Mervyn Storey’s actions in heading a Stormont Department which funds sodomy and blasphemy be defended or excused?

stormontMervyn Storey remains an elder in the Free Presbyterian Church, despite his links with recent controversies regarding the funding of ungodly activities, activities which are deeply offensive and blasphemous.

That would suggest that there are those who believe that what he did was without sin and involves no transgression of God’s Word.

There has been no public response by Storey to criticisms of his actions in these matters. Nor, indeed, have any of those who have gone “from house to house” tattling out empty, spurious excuses for the man, had the courage to openly answer the case made against him.

Of course, this was the pattern adopted by those who sought to defend poor Dr Paisley’s decision to enter a power-sharing government with Sinn Fein/IRA back in 2007.

Such a tactic is in itself an unwitting admission of the weakness of their case.

“TOUCHING THE UNCLEAN THING”

dirty_handsWhy does Dr Joel Beeke’s Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary share accreditation with Roman Catholic colleges??

An interesting fact regarding Dr Joel Beeke’s Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary has just come to light, thanks to research done by the Editors of “Banash” website, Sharon Kirker and Marie O’Prey.

The Puritan Reformed Theological Seminary has received accreditation from ‘The Association of Theological Schools’.

The Association website has this ‘blurb’ by way of introduction to just what it is.

“More than 270 graduate schools of theology in the United States and Canada form The Association of Theological Schools. Member schools conduct post-baccalaureate professional and academic degree programs to educate persons for the practice of ministry and for teaching and research in the theological disciplines. These schools differ from one another in deep and significant ways, but through their membership in ATS, they demonstrate a commitment to shared values about what constitutes good theological education. Collectively, ATS member schools enrol approximately 74,500 students and employ more than 7,200 faculty and administrators.”

So how long will it be before we invite the IS jihadis to a white-tie dinner?

Patrick Magee (pictured in Belfast last year) is free and apparently  living a happy and contented life while his victims lie in their graves. While we rage and fret about the terrorist outrages of today, how quickly we forget the horrors of the recent past. Read more

Proposed Changes to Abortion Law in Northern Ireland

David_FordThe case being made for changes to the law regarding abortion in Northern Ireland that David Ford, Justice Minister in the Stormont power-sharing government and leader of the Alliance Party is pushing, is not new.

The Justice Department is asking for the views of the public on whether abortion should be allowed for women carrying children which would die due to defects anyway, and also it is being asked whether abortions should be available to those who conceived due to incest or rape.

It should be remembered that the decision to abort a baby which is alleged to be suffering from defects, from which it will die after its birth, rests upon the views of doctors, based upon their interpreting of medical evidence supplied by scans etc.

That amounts to the doctors supplanting the role of God! Read more

Godless Federations

(A message preached at the Sovereign Grace Advent Testimony evening meeting held in New Life Presbyterian Church hall (kindly granted) in West Kilburn, London, on Friday 26th September, 2014, by Rev Ivan Foster)

“Keep not thou silence, O God: hold not thy peace, and be not still, O God. For, lo, thine enemies make a tumult: and they that hate thee have lifted up the head. They have taken crafty counsel against thy people, and consulted against thy hidden ones. They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance. For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee: the tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarenes; Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre; Assur also is joined with them: they have holpen the children of Lot. Selah,” Psalm 83:1-8.

The anti-Israel sentiments expressed here in this psalm have long been desired and if anything are stronger today than ever before. How precise and detailed is the information here given on this federation of nations. Prophecy is history written before the event. This amalgam of haters of Israel will indeed come together in their efforts to “cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance” just prior to our Saviour’s return. Read more

The Apostasy

A message preached at the Sovereign Grace Advent Testimony afternoon meeting held in New Life Presbyterian Church hall (kindly granted) in West Kilburn, London, on Friday 26th September, 2014, by Rev Ivan Foster.

“Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God,” 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4. Read more

The Mastermind behind the modern drugs craze

“And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived,” Revelation 18:23.

This article, based upon a sermon preached at the evening service in Kilskeery Free Presbyterian Church some 20 years ago on 28th March, 1993, was prompted by a recent spate of newspaper reports on drug-related deaths in Northern Ireland of which this news report is an example.

The Bible tells us just what is the source of drug-abuse and who it is promotes it and to what end it is promoted. The finger is pointed straight at the Devil! Read more

Holiness: Its Nature, Hindrances, Difficulties, and Roots

by Bishop J C Ryle, (1816 – 1900)

This is the fourth chapter from JC Ryle’s book on Holiness and is worthy of our consideration. It highlights the the struggle, the battle that is involved in living for God in a wicked world.

The attitude of all too many believers toward the holy commandments of God is that of Saul and the Israelites toward the command given the king of God, regarding the slaying of the Amalekites and all that was theirs. Where they were in agreement with the commands of God they obeyed, but where their carnal appetites and desires differed from God they defied Him and yielded to their own cravings. So it is oftentimes with God’s people. Where they disagree with God’s law they find reasons to defy it and indulge their fleshly desires. There are some things they see “no harm” in and so refuse to obey. Such picking and choosing angers God and brings down His judgment on the disobedient. “It repenteth me that I have set up Saul to be king: for he is turned back from following me, and hath not performed my commandments,” 1 Samuel 15:11.

Bishop Ryle shows the battle that is involved in yielding full obedience to God and following the path of holiness. May we be given the grace enjoyed by Joshua and Caleb and “wholly” follow the LORD, Numbers 32:12.   Read more…

An example from Australia of the dreadful suffering endured by Roman Catholic families at the hands of pervert priests and the deceitful, lying hierarchy

Nothing could be further removed from the merciful dealings of the God of Heaven with sinful men than the ‘Roman Catholic Church’.

In recent times, the most horrific revelations have been disclosed of what takes place behind the walls of her institutions and chapels worldwide. The cesspool of iniquity thus uncovered is nothing compared to the final revelation of her satanic activities and corruptions when God shall remove the veil of her pretended ‘holiness’!

She is the foremost element in that dreadful Antichristian amalgam portrayed in Revelation 17:4-6. “And the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet colour, and decked with gold and precious stones and pearls, having a golden cup in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication: and upon her forehead was a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH. And I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus: and when I saw her, I wondered with great admiration.”

John Gill comments on the final statement in those verses – i.e. the writer John’s ‘admiration’ or ‘amazement, astonishment, wonderment’ : “it was astonishing to him that one bearing the name of a Christian church should rise to such grandeur; and he wondered at the name upon her forehead, what the whole of that inscription should mean; but, above all, at her drunkenness with the blood of the saints; at her inhumanity and cruelty, being as savage as the beast she rode on; and also at God’s forbearance of her, that He, Who is a pure and holy Being, a lover of His saints, an avenger of His elect, should suffer such a brutish, barbarous, and bloodthirsty creature, to live upon earth.”

There are few who see Romanism as such today but a day is coming when all the world will see her for what she is.

The following document is the personal testimony of a father and mother who have encountered firsthand the bitterness of life under Popery. Read more

Is it ever right to do what former generations considered improper?

or, “A plea for the old paths”.
“Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein,” Jeremiah 6:16.
The drift that takes place amongst the professing people of God from generation to generation is a matter of Biblical record. Who, as a serious student of God’s Word, has not read with trembling the words found in Judges chapter 2? Read more
