WHAT IT WAS CONVINCED ME TO ESPOUSE CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

Looking back on life, we become aware that behind the decisions that were made in years past where many interwoven influences and events, all of which served to move one’s mind in a certain direction and bring about a crossroads decision that had a major impact upon our future life.

So it was with me and my wife Ann concerning Christian Education. I am going to employ the letters A, B and C in the three points I wish to set before you.

I. We were ALARMED as parents by what children were being taught in the state school.
My wife trained to be a teacher of French, German and Latin but because of her membership of the Free Presbyterian Church was unable to obtain a post. Her experience in Enniskillen Girls Collegiate School illustrates this well. She was invited to take up a post and even introduced to some staff members as a new appointee. The headmistress then, seeing her engagement ring, discovered that she was to marry me. When she returned to the school a few days later to prepare for teaching she was told that the school committee had not endorsed her appointment. That was the sort of discrimination carried out against Free Presbyterians back in 1967!

Pastor John MacArthur Answers: Is It Sinful to Provide Services for a Gay Wedding?

John MacArthur fails to distinguish between business encounters with sodomites unawares and that of knowingly and consciously becoming involved in the promoting and endorsing of sodomy as was the case with the Ashers Bakery.

Paul has a word on this matter: “I wrote unto you in an epistle not to company with fornicators: Yet not altogether with the fornicators of this world, or with the covetous, or extortioners, or with idolaters; for then must ye needs go out of the world. But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat,” 1 Corinthians 5:9-11.

Albert Barnes explains these words so: ‘In my direction not “to company” with them, I did not mean that you should refuse all kinds of intercourse with them; that you should not treat them with civility, or be engaged with them in any of the transactions of life, or in the ordinary intercourse of society between man and man, for this would be impossible; but that you should not so associate with them as to be esteemed to belong to them, or so as to be corrupted by their example. You are not to make them companions and friends.’

There’s nothing wrong with being gay, says DUP councillor

What say the professing Christian fellow DUP councillors?!

We know what God says about this matter:

“If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them,” Leviticus 20:13.

“Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind (sodomites), nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.” 1 Corinthians 6:9-11.

If there is nothing wrong with being “gay”, to use the euphemistic term so loved of those who hate the Bible’s description of this wicked lifestyle, why does God declare that they will not enter heaven unless they repent and forsake this wickedness???

DUP MP’s ‘surprising’ Pride message

The main issue in this article is the support for the sodomite ‘Gay Pride’ parade by DUP ‘new girl’, Emma Little-Pengelly. She defies God’s Word when she says that that sodomites should “be able to live a proud life”. There should be no pride taken in disobeying God and embarking upon a lifestyle so repugnant to God.

Her view is an indication of the DUP’s swing toward supporting the sodomite call for ‘marriage’ rights. She has been prominent since her introduction to the DUP ‘upper echelon’ and her election as a Westminster MP.

As stated in a previous news link, the signs are there that the DUP will soon shift its position.

As a professing Christian, Jim Wells, quoted in the article, will have to do more than express ‘surprise’ at her attitude. Utter condemnation is called for at the very least.

To remain faithful to God, his sojourn in the DUP must end soon. That is the challenge for the Christians within the DUP’s ranks of elected representatives and supporters??

Former DUP councillor, Ruth Patterson is quoted as saying: “At the end of the day, who are we to judge anyone and the way they live their lives?” Christians use the same authority to condemn sodomy as is used when condemning murder and terrorism, something Ruth Patterson has not been slow to do, the Word of God!

Letter of protest to Chief Constable

Below is a letter from Rev Ian Brown of Martys Memorial Free Presbyterian Church Protesting to Chief Constable at the presence of serving officers in the sodomite parade in Belfast.

Dear Chief Constable Hamilton,

Though previous participation by serving officers in your police force in the annual ‘Gay Pride’ parade through Belfast City should have prepared me for this year’s new development of officers parading in the uniform of the PSNI, I am still extremely shocked.

Irrespective of who is the designated target I have no desire to see hate crimes of any nature being committed or defended within my country, however the nature of the police involvement in this event generates serious concern on a number of levels.

Respect for public decency
In any other circumstances, the inappropriate attire and activities of a significant number of those who have comprised this parade on all former occasions would constitute a gross infringement of public decency. The overt and vulgar sexual imagery that has been typical of the previous parades your officers have policed in the past should have alerted you to the fact that this is not an appropriate event with which any of your personnel should identify while in official uniform. To reach a decision that there is justification for some of your officers and vehicles becoming an integral part of a parade that has annually displayed placards containing vicious verbal assaults on true biblical religion and mercilessly castigated political figures in our province is nothing short of an outrage and besmirches the reputation of the PSNI which is meant to behave as a politically neutral organisation.

Expectation of true equality
It is not at all reassuring to Bible-believing Christians to note that responses to earlier letters of complaint appear to invoke the actions of other police forces in the United Kingdom which have explained participation in similar events as being based on a policing purpose – especially since a significant number of those police forces have been to the forefront in recently attempting to prosecute Christian preachers on the basis of alleged hate crimes when they have merely mentioned the verdict of Holy Scripture on the practice of homosexuality. The resources invested in these vacuous cases and the almost invariable rejection of them by the judiciary simply serve to emphasise the incredible bias inherent in many of our police forces in addressing this issue. The policy being pursued by the PSNI at this event has the effect, not of equalising our society, but of elevating a miniscule percentage of it into a special category that is afforded privileges and protections not available to others. By so explicitly tying your uniform and badge to this special interest grouping will undoubtedly further ostracise those who mount a legitimate protest against what the Bible teaches is a promotion of moral decadence.

I send this letter with little expectation that the practice which you have adopted with respect to this parade will be altered. However you should be reminded that the Word of God is the ultimate unalterable authority and, no matter how you express your identification with a practice that He so consistently condemns, His sovereign purpose will inevitably hold sway in the affairs of men; Jeremiah 14:10: “Thus saith the LORD unto this people, Thus have they loved to wander, they have not refrained their feet, therefore the LORD doth not accept them; He will now remember their iniquity, and visit their sins.”

Leo Varadkar: (Dublin Prime Minister) NI same-sex marriage ‘only a matter of time’

The ground is being prepared for a total political sell-out on this issue. All the major political parties in NI are in favour of this wickedness with the exception of the DUP, which at best can be seen by its present silence, as becoming ever more equivocal!

The Traditional Unionist Party has raised its voice of opposition.

There is nothing equivocal about God’s Word on this matter and it ALONE is our rule of faith and practice.

Sadly, there is no real organised, concerted opposition by Christians to the sodomite campaign.

Letter to Belfast Newsletter in response to former senior police officer’s support for sodomite marriage and participation of policemen in “gay parade”!! (which he seems to have ignored!)

Former Assistant Chief Constable Alan McQuillan, speaking in favour of PSNI members participating in this year’s sodomite “Gay Pride” march and also in support of sodomite marriage, says: “people should have the right to live as they want” (Belfast Newsletter, 4th August 2017).

A Message from 31 years ago which is still relevant today: Christian Schools and the Future of Free Presbyterianism

A message preached by Rev Ivan Foster at the 2nd Seminar on Christian Education, held in Martyrs’ Memorial Church, Belfast, as part of the annual Easter Convention, March 29th, 1986.

“If thy children will keep my covenant and my testimony that I shall teach them, their children shall also sit upon thy throne for evermore,” Psalm 132:12.

In 1978 the Presbytery of Ulster of the Free Presbyterian Church heard a request from Rev. Ivan Foster to consider the need for Christian schools. Following a discussion a delegation of ministers and elders met officials of the Department of Education.
The outcome of the meeting was a recommendation to Presbytery that permission be granted to any church that wished to start a school. The Presbytery agreed in principle and appointed a Presbytery Education Board, chaired by Rev. Foster, to supervise the new missionary enterprise.

In September of the next year, Kilskeery Church started the first Free Presbyterian school.

Society’s anti-christian, pro-sodomite bias epitomised in Deputy Chief Constable Drew Harris’s comment regarding policemen in uniform taking part in an anti-sodomite march!!!!

“However, he said the PSNI was “unlikely” to allow uniformed officers to take part in a Christian march that expressed a view that homosexuality was a sin.”

Most of our readers should be aware of the controversy surrounding Dr Joel Beeke and his links with those whose standing should not be acceptable to the Free Presbyterian Church of Ulster. In the past he has shared platforms with pro-sodomite speakers and sold books extolling the sodomite life-style. This can be checked out in Pastor Ralph Ovadal’s article: “The Downward Spiral of Dr. Joel Beeke’s Ministries Continues”.

However, as is the inevitable outcome of compromise, he has gone even further. On a preaching visit to Holland, he preached in pulpits which are occupied by sodomite-supporting ministers. But, not content with such a violation of God’s Word, Dr Beeke used the occasion to express a desire for his church, Heritage Netherlands Reformed Congregation, to have formal links with the Restored Reformed Church denomination which has endorsed the dreadful doctrine that a sodomite can be a true believer and even a minister of the Lord Jesus Christ. Read more

Private Interpretation Forbidden

The enigma code machine

“Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation,” 2 Peter 1:20.

Many would challenge Peter’s assertion, though perhaps they do so without realising the significance of their actions. I say this in order to ameliorate their error because I do feel many are unaware that they are engaged in that which Peter here forbids.

Many believe that we must come to the Bible and “interpret” what it is God says! Now the word “interpretation” means “unloosing”. It is the process of “untying a knot”. That suggests that God has given us a “tangled skein” rather than a clear revelation!

It is what the combatants in the Second World War on both sides were busily engaged in. Most famously, the German military developed, after the First World War, that which was called “The Enigma Code.” It was a complex system of encoding its military communications, thus concealing them from their enemies. However, the Polish Cipher Bureau broke the code in the 1930s. Of course, the Germans were ever improving their code and so there was an ongoing battle of wits which I think we can say the Allies won, for during the latter part of World War II, the British knew much of what it was the Germans were saying and planning.

The USA likewise had broken the Japanese system of codes and were thus in possession of much of the communications coming out of Japan.

A backdrop which tells a sad story

arelene_foster_pubI was sent some pictures which allegedly appeared on the ‘Facebook’ page of the DUP leader, Mrs Arlene Foster.

Apparently, Enniskillen DUP held a breakfast meeting at the Horseshoe Bar and Saddlers Restaurant, one of the oldest public houses in Enniskillen.

For such a venue to be acceptable to the members of the DUP indicates a grave departure from the Party’s founding principles and practices.

There was a time when such a venue would never have been dreamed of and I am inclined to believe that it would still be the case for many local branches. Read more

The war that God provoked

roman_soldier“And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel” Genesis 3:15.

What a wonderful gospel text this is.

It is the first gospel sermon and it was preached by the Lord Himself.

The mercy of the Lord is seen in how quickly the Lord utters this word of grace after the sin of Adam and Eve has been committed. Notice the words were directed against the devil. His rejoicing over his conquest of Adam and Eve was short lived. This word from the Lord ended such rejoicing the devil may have been deceived into engaging in. The pleasures of sin are but for a season says Paul when referring to Moses’ decision to reject the throne of Egypt. “Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season,” Hebrews 11:25.

For Adam and Eve the words of God were welcome. There is promised to them victory over the one whose evil has plighted and destroyed their world. They would not have to live in subjection to him.

These words indicate that God is going to start a war between the devil and all believers and that for all of time. Read more

A most abominable archbishop

Justin WelbyIn his response to the admission by the Bishop of Grantham, Nicholas Chamberlain, that he is in a sodomite relationship, the Belfast Newsletter of 5th September 2016, reports that Rev Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury, said: “I am and have been fully aware of Bishop Nick’s long-term, committed relationship.” He added: “He lives within the bishops’ guidelines and his sexuality is completely irrelevant to his office.”

This is one of the most wicked statements I have ever heard coming from the increasingly corrupt Archbishop of Canterbury’s office.

Since nothing has been done to deal with this shameful defiance of G od’s Word, we can only surmise that Welby approves of such wickedness. Read more

The Folly of Unbelief

Based on a message preached at a special Saturday morning season of prayer attended by teachers, pupils, parents, Management Committee members and supporters of Kilskeery Independent Christian School, at the commencement of its 38th year.

The life of David provides us with many lessons for our pilgrimage here on earth. The trials and afflictions he endured present to us a true representation of what it is the Church of Christ may expect to encounter as it journeys to the “land that is fairer than day.”

Job’s Christ

“For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: and though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me,” Job 19:25-27.

(Based upon a sermon preached by Rev Ivan Foster in Kilskeery Free Presbyterian Church on September 4th, 1994)

Knowing that such is the greatness of this text that no sermon of mine could do it justice, I feel I must return to it this Sabbath morning for one more look at its glorious message. I would like to highlight truths that I did not touch upon in our last study.

Job had little hope of ever seeing a restoration of that lost in his trial and little hope of ever being vindicated before his friends in his lifetime. But he did have a firm assurance of seeing just such a vindication one day. To that day he appeals in this great outburst of faith. I wish to look at these words and see Job’s Christ. Read more

Back in 2002, I entered into a correspondence in the pages of “The Burning Bush” with a Roman Catholic priest from Belfast. The correspondence arose after I wrote a letter in reply to an article by the priest in “The Belfast Telegraph” of August 24th, 2002.

I was grieved at such a platform being given to the errors and deceptions of Rome and commented on the priest’s article in a letter to “The Belfast Telegraph.”

It will be noted how our two replies to the priest were edited by the ‘Letters Editor’ of “The Belfast Telegraph” before they quickly closed the exchange after two exchanges.

The Word of God was not liked by that ecumenical newspaper back then and it is still the case. Every effort was made to shield and protect the priest of Rome from the rebuke of God’s Word.

We are republishing the correspondence, which continued for eight exchanges, and appeared in “The Burning Bush” from October 2002 until May 2003, because of the publicity given to the ‘warm relationship’ that was manifested between this priest and Pastor James McConnell during the recent trial occasioned by Pastor McConnell’s pulpit statements about Islam. Pastor McConnell asked ‘Father’ Patrick McCafferty to speak on his behalf during the trial.

All this “ecumenical camaraderie” between the pastor and the priest may appear to some to give endorsement of the teachings of Rome and it is for this reason we highlight again the errors this priest, like all Roman Catholic clerics, propagates.

Needless to say, it also highlights the folly of James McConnell!

Some things to be considered regarding the recent decision by the United Kingdom to withdraw from the European Union.

I believe that the outcome of the referendum on the EU came as a surprise to many Christians, even though they had hoped for a vote to withdraw. The outcome was not that which was predicted by most newspaper opinion polls and that was not really surprising, given the campaign that the government, led by Mr Cameron, mounted in company with the Labour leader, Jeremy Corbin and those of that ilk.

The decision has brought a measure joy to earnest Christians who saw the miseries that links with the EU have brought about. Many of the immoral changes introduced into UK law had their source in the EU. The laws on sodomy, same-sex ‘marriages’ and abortion were all altered to suit the moral attitudes prevailing within the EU.

However, there are some simple truths which we must not lose sight of in the light of this momentous decision. Read more

‘Pharaoh’ – a foreshadowing of the Antichrist

That there have been men who in their lives foreshadowed the future Antichrist serves to remind us of a number of important truths.

1. The spirit of iniquity has been at work amongst men since the fall of Adam. The devil’s temptation of man was not a random event but rather the beginning, amongst men, of the devil’s plan to overthrow God!

2. Furthermore, these vile men were merely foreshadowings and not the substance which indicates the restraining power of God upon the devil at work. The devil would like to have made some of them his ultimate agents but was prevented from doing so by the restraining power of God.

3. Moreover, if such wicked men as Cain, Goliath, Judas, and many others were but foreshadowings of the Antichrist, then the final manifestation of wickedness incarnate will be most dreadful indeed.

As a volcano reveals its destructive heart by its occasional eruptions, even so the repeated emergence of evil men, whose ways and words have been a portent of that satanically-controlled being who will emerge to dominate the Roman world, shortly before the return of the Saviour, has been a revealing of the burning cauldron of degeneracy that has long been inhibited by the mighty power of God until it is God’s time to bring to pass “every purpose of the LORD,” Jeremiah 51:29. Read more

Securing the future by remembering the past, part 1.

Psalm 78

It is clearly stated here in this Psalm what the duty of fathers is regarding teaching children of the merciful dealings of God with them and their forbears.

“We will not hide them from their children, shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done,” verse 4.

The consequences of failure is clearly indicated here also. “And might not be as their fathers, a stubborn and rebellious generation; a generation that set not their heart aright, and whose spirit was not stedfast with God,” verse 8.

We must not just bear in mind God’s merciful dealings with His people in the past and the rich and blessed harvest that was the result, but we must also remember what disobedience and defiance of God by former generations brought upon them. See versus 18-33. Read more

To what extent does the Free Presbyterian church owe its present prosperity to the events of 1966?

A-time-to-be-remembered-coverOn the 6th June 1966, a Free Presbyterian protest march of witness which had been given permission by the police to take place and its route approved, was attacked by Republican rioters in the Cromac Square area of Belfast. The route the parade followed was the main route into the centre of Belfast and there was no alternative route available.

Preparation

The rioters had prepared themselves for the ambush by collecting railway bolts from a section of a nearby railway which was being demolished and delivering them by lorry to side streets in the Cromac square area. Police were informed of these activities but took very little if any action.

Long before the witness march arrived in the Cromac Square area and before it could be seen, the Republicans had begun to attack the police.

The witness marchers had to walk through a lethal hail of stones, bottles, railway bolts and other deadly missiles. Read more

Back in 2002, I entered into a correspondence in the pages of “The Burning Bush” with a Roman Catholic priest from Belfast. The correspondence arose after I wrote a letter in reply to an article by the priest in “The Belfast Telegraph” of August 24th, 2002.

I was grieved at such a platform being given to the errors and deceptions of Rome and commented on the priest’s article in a letter to “The Belfast Telegraph.”

It will be noted how our two replies to the priest were edited by the ‘Letters Editor’ of “The Belfast Telegraph” before they quickly closed the exchange after two exchanges.

The Word of God was not liked by that ecumenical newspaper back then and it is still the case. Every effort was made to shield and protect the priest of Rome from the rebuke of God’s Word.

We are republishing the correspondence, which continued for eight exchanges, and appeared in “The Burning Bush” from October 2002 until May 2003, because of the publicity given to the ‘warm relationship’ that was manifested between this priest and Pastor James McConnell during the recent trial occasioned by Pastor McConnell’s pulpit statements about Islam. Pastor McConnell asked ‘Father’ Patrick McCafferty to speak on his behalf during the trial.

All this “ecumenical camaraderie” between the pastor and the priest may appear to some to give endorsement of the teachings of Rome and it is for this reason we highlight again the errors this priest, like all Roman Catholic clerics, propagates.

Needless to say, it also highlights the folly of James McConnell!
