Kilskeery Free Presbyterian Church

Lord’s Day 9th October

Preacher: Rev Ivan Foster

Special subjects:

11.30 am – “For whom has Christ reserved a crown?”

7.00 pm – “Which path will the Free Presbyterian Church choose? Repudiating Dr. Joel Beeke’s compromises or Displeasing the Lord of Glory.

All are welcome to these meetings.

“Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints,” Jude 1:3.

Joel Beeke preaches for and publicly seeks closer links with sodomy-endorsing Dutch denomination!

beekeHis departure cannot get much worse and leaves his supporters with a stark choice.
How long are some ministers going to continue attempting to whitewash this man?
God’s warning stands sure: “Behold, ye have sinned against the LORD: and be sure your sin will find you out,” Numbers 32:23.

Most of our readers should be aware of the controversy surrounding Dr Joel Beeke and his links with those whose standing should not be acceptable to the Free Presbyterian Church of Ulster. In the past he has shared platforms with pro-sodomite speakers and sold books extolling the sodomite life-style. This can be checked out in Pastor Ralph Ovadal’s article: “The Downward Spiral of Dr. Joel Beeke’s Ministries Continues”.

However, as is the inevitable outcome of compromise, he has gone even further. On a preaching visit to Holland, he preached in pulpits which are occupied by sodomite-supporting ministers. But, not content with such a violation of God’s Word, Dr Beeke used the occasion to express a desire for his church, Heritage Netherlands Reformed Congregation, to have formal links with the Restored Reformed Church denomination which has endorsed the dreadful doctrine that a sodomite can be a true believer and even a minister of the Lord Jesus Christ. Read more

Private Interpretation Forbidden

The enigma code machine

“Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation,” 2 Peter 1:20.

Many would challenge Peter’s assertion, though perhaps they do so without realising the significance of their actions. I say this in order to ameliorate their error because I do feel many are unaware that they are engaged in that which Peter here forbids.

Many believe that we must come to the Bible and “interpret” what it is God says! Now the word “interpretation” means “unloosing”. It is the process of “untying a knot”. That suggests that God has given us a “tangled skein” rather than a clear revelation!

It is what the combatants in the Second World War on both sides were busily engaged in. Most famously, the German military developed, after the First World War, that which was called “The Enigma Code.” It was a complex system of encoding its military communications, thus concealing them from their enemies. However, the Polish Cipher Bureau broke the code in the 1930s. Of course, the Germans were ever improving their code and so there was an ongoing battle of wits which I think we can say the Allies won, for during the latter part of World War II, the British knew much of what it was the Germans were saying and planning.

The USA likewise had broken the Japanese system of codes and were thus in possession of much of the communications coming out of Japan.

That is what interpretation means. Read more….

A backdrop which tells a sad story

arelene_foster_pubI was sent some pictures which allegedly appeared on the ‘Facebook’ page of the DUP leader, Mrs Arlene Foster.

Apparently, Enniskillen DUP held a breakfast meeting at the Horseshoe Bar and Saddlers Restaurant, one of the oldest public houses in Enniskillen.

For such a venue to be acceptable to the members of the DUP indicates a grave departure from the Party’s founding principles and practices.

There was a time when such a venue would never have been dreamed of and I am inclined to believe that it would still be the case for many local branches. Read more

The war that God provoked

roman_soldier“And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel” Genesis 3:15.

What a wonderful gospel text this is.

It is the first gospel sermon and it was preached by the Lord Himself.

The mercy of the Lord is seen in how quickly the Lord utters this word of grace after the sin of Adam and Eve has been committed. Notice the words were directed against the devil. His rejoicing over his conquest of Adam and Eve was short lived. This word from the Lord ended such rejoicing the devil may have been deceived into engaging in. The pleasures of sin are but for a season says Paul when referring to Moses’ decision to reject the throne of Egypt. “Choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God, than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a season,” Hebrews 11:25.

For Adam and Eve the words of God were welcome. There is promised to them victory over the one whose evil has plighted and destroyed their world. They would not have to live in subjection to him.

These words indicate that God is going to start a war between the devil and all believers and that for all of time. Read more

A most abominable archbishop

Justin WelbyIn his response to the admission by the Bishop of Grantham, Nicholas Chamberlain, that he is in a sodomite relationship, the Belfast Newsletter of 5th September 2016, reports that Rev Justin Welby, the Archbishop of Canterbury, said: “I am and have been fully aware of Bishop Nick’s long-term, committed relationship.” He added: “He lives within the bishops’ guidelines and his sexuality is completely irrelevant to his office.”

This is one of the most wicked statements I have ever heard coming from the increasingly corrupt Archbishop of Canterbury’s office.

1. He states that he has been “fully aware of Bishop Nick’s long-term, committed relationship.”

Since nothing has been done to deal with this shameful defiance of G od’s Word, we can only surmise that Welby approves of such wickedness. Read more

Beeke Backtracking!!!

refo500nalaunch
Dr. Beeke at the launch of Refo500 North America

Not for the first time Dr Joel Beeke has been found wanting when it comes to honesty!
Recently, Pastor Ralph Ovadal published an article on his site, “The Downward Spiral of Dr. Joel Beeke’s Ministries Continues.” Click here to read the article.

That article contains the following statement:

Dr. Joel Beeke and Refo500 Together again, or more accurately, the illicit affair continues…it was recently brought to our attention that Dr. Beeke has not even ceased speaking at Refo500 events, as evidenced by the fact that he is a featured speaker at a Refo500 conference in the Netherlands scheduled for August 31—September 2, 2016. This Refo500 event is being held at the Theological University Apeldoorn where Dr. Herman Selderhuis is Professor of Church History and Church Polity.” Read more

The Folly of Unbelief

kilskeeryfpc“And David said in his heart, I shall now perish one day by the hand of Saul: there is nothing better for me than that I should speedily escape into the land of the Philistines; and Saul shall despair of me, to seek me any more in any coast of Israel: so shall I escape out of his hand,” 1 Samuel 27:1.

Based on a message preached at a special Saturday morning season of prayer attended by teachers, pupils, parents, Management Committee members and supporters of Kilskeery Independent Christian School, at the commencement of its 38th year.

The life of David provides us with many lessons for our pilgrimage here on earth. The trials and afflictions he endured present to us a true representation of what it is the Church of Christ may expect to encounter as it journeys to the “land that is fairer than day.”

As our school launches into its 38th year, we may take instruction, warnings and encouragement from this passage. Read more Listen using the player below:

Job’s Christ

“For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: and though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God: whom I shall see for myself, and mine eyes shall behold, and not another; though my reins be consumed within me,” Job 19:25-27.

(Based upon a sermon preached by Rev Ivan Foster in Kilskeery Free Presbyterian Church on September 4th, 1994)

Knowing that such is the greatness of this text that no sermon of mine could do it justice, I feel I must return to it this Sabbath morning for one more look at its glorious message. I would like to highlight truths that I did not touch upon in our last study.

Job had little hope of ever seeing a restoration of that lost in his trial and little hope of ever being vindicated before his friends in his lifetime. But he did have a firm assurance of seeing just such a vindication one day. To that day he appeals in this great outburst of faith. I wish to look at these words and see Job’s Christ. Read more

Editor’s correspondence with ‘Father’ Patrick McCafferty

Pastor James McConnell and the RC priest Patrick McCafferty with whom he is most friendly
Pastor James McConnell and the RC priest Patrick McCafferty with whom he is most friendly

Back in 2002, I entered into a correspondence in the pages of “The Burning Bush” with a Roman Catholic priest from Belfast. The correspondence arose after I wrote a letter in reply to an article by the priest in “The Belfast Telegraph” of August 24th, 2002.

I was grieved at such a platform being given to the errors and deceptions of Rome and commented on the priest’s article in a letter to “The Belfast Telegraph.”

It will be noted how our two replies to the priest were edited by the ‘Letters Editor’ of “The Belfast Telegraph” before they quickly closed the exchange after two exchanges.

The Word of God was not liked by that ecumenical newspaper back then and it is still the case. Every effort was made to shield and protect the priest of Rome from the rebuke of God’s Word.

We are republishing the correspondence, which continued for eight exchanges, and appeared in “The Burning Bush” from October 2002 until May 2003, because of the publicity given to the ‘warm relationship’ that was manifested between this priest and Pastor James McConnell during the recent trial occasioned by Pastor McConnell’s pulpit statements about Islam. Pastor McConnell asked ‘Father’ Patrick McCafferty to speak on his behalf during the trial.

All this “ecumenical camaraderie” between the pastor and the priest may appear to some to give endorsement of the teachings of Rome and it is for this reason we highlight again the errors this priest, like all Roman Catholic clerics, propagates.

Needless to say, it also highlights the folly of James McConnell!

Read Part 9 of the exchange here.

The True Nonconformist Christian

bible_image“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God,” Romans 12:1-2.
The word “therefore” leads us to the start of the practical section of the epistle, that of applying the truths Paul has set forth in chapters 1-11.

How practical and useful the gospel is! It is that heavenly ointment whereby the wounds and bruises of sin are mollified. (Isaiah 1:6.) Unlike the ointments compounded by men which are very limited in their applications, serving only to address one or maybe two ailments, the gospel ointment is universal. It treats all of man’s ills and that most successfully. So said Isaiah the prophet and Peter the apostle. “But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed,” Isaiah 53:5 “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed,” 1 Peter 2:24. Healing from our sins comes through Christ the Ointment of Heaven.

The first application of the truths that Paul has set down in the previous eleven chapters is found in the exhortation, “Present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.” Read more…listen below…

Rev Ivan Foster’s letter to the Editor of the “Belfast Newsletter” in answer to the latest from Dublin critic

What follows is the latest in an exchange of letters between Rev. Foster and John McFarland Campbell from Dublin in the columns of the Belfast Newsletter.

Mr Ivan Foster (Aug 11) informs us that he has quoted from a version of the Articles of Religion as on the Church Society website.

It is clearly stated there, that this version “is provided solely for the purpose of making the Articles more easily understood. The standing or authority of the Articles as set out in the Book of Common Prayer is in no way to be interpreted as diminished or undermined.”Read more

The Downward Spiral of Dr. Joel Beeke’s Ministries Continues

We wish to highlight Dr Beeke’s attitude to sodomy and show that our objections to Dr Beeke’s ministry started long before his production of the “Beeke Bible” and involves other very serious issues indeed by remounting this article!

Ivan Foster replies to Dublin Critic.

ThebelfastnewsletterIt purports to be a reply to a letter by Rev Foster in response to criticism from a Roman Catholic with regards to his article on IRA man Joe McCann.

Letter from Mr. John McFarland Campbell of Dublin.

The Rev Ivan Foster (August 4) is quick to accuse Mr McEvoy of using weasel words.
But the Reverend gentleman should be careful with his own pronouncements lest he be found to be using weasel words himself. Read more

FAITHFUL to the end

bible_image“And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD,” Joshua 24:15.

Based on two sermons preached by Rev Ivan Foster in Gilford Free Presbyterian Church on Lord’s Day, August 7th, 2016.

The final days of Joshua present a model for us all to note and heed. It is to be noticed that verse 29 tells us that the events recorded in this chapter are followed by the death of the great man of God. “And it came to pass after these things, that Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died, being an hundred and ten years old.” It is clear that to the end, Joshua was faithful to the Lord and was most anxious to promote faithfulness amongst the people of God by tackling head on the issues that were threatening Israel’s spiritual well-being and future.

What a perfect paragon the man is for us all, especially the servants of God. I have lived with the words of old Pastor J Kyle Paisley, spoken to me just after I started my studies in the Free Church: “It is not how you start that counts but how you finish!” Joshua finished well. Read more

Local outreach by Kilskeery FPC Youth Fellowship

Kilskeery_YPF_outreach1The young people of Kilskeery Free Presbyterian Church have commenced a Saturday outreach in the villages around the area during the month of August.

On Saturday 6th, they visited houses in Trillick where two open-airs took place and they held another in their own little village of Kilskeery.

A text number was included in the literature urging people to use it to request further literature or the CD of a gospel sermon.

We would ask friends to pray for the word preached and the literature distributed that the Lord might bless His Word to every heart. Read more

The spiritual ’Zika Virus’ plaguing our society

R_DavidsonThere is a truth in God’s Word which aptly sums up the underlying agenda of those who belong to the ‘world of perversion’, represented by the various sodomite groups.

It is found in Isaiah 5:20-21. “Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!”

Sodomites would have us believe that darkness is light; evil is good, bitter is sweet and vice versa!!

The deadly Zika Virus is spread by the smallest of bites but what havoc and grief comes of it! So it is with the sin of sodomy. It has been labelled as a most innocuous lifestyle which if accepted will bring benefits to society. It has corrupted the word ‘gay’ perverting that which used to mean joyful into a euphemism for all that is vile and offensive!

From tiny beginnings it has spread until the rights and freedoms of the God-fearing are largely eroded and denied in our land. It has become a crime to call sodomy what it is – a devilish perversion that will corrupt the minds and bodies of those who embrace it and damn their souls in everlasting hell! Read more

The DUP and its changed stance on sodomy

DUP_Lord_MayorIn an article dated Saturday 05 January 2013, the “Belfast Newsletter” disclosed that back in 1982 the DUP was furious at the prospects of gay law reforms.

The article quoted a DUP submission to the British Government in April of that year.
The article stated: “The DUP’s unanimous view that homosexuality should remain a serious criminal offence in Northern Ireland in 1982 is forcefully expressed in a newly-released Cabinet paper document.

In a submission to the Government, dated April 30 of that year, the party articulates fierce and detailed opposition to plans to legalise homosexuality, which the DUP paper links to paedophilia. Read more

Church of Ireland appoints a Roman Catholic priest as a Canon in St Anne’s Cathedral, Belfast

ST_AnnesThe announcement of the appointment of a Roman Catholic priest as a “canon” at St Anne’s Church of Ireland Cathedral, Belfast, is presented in a article in the “Belfast Telegraph”, (29/7/16) as a wonderful story of ‘sweetness and light’.

What is not referred to is the utter repudiation of the Protestant position of the Church of Ireland.

The Church of Ireland is part of that Anglican Communion which was born at the time of the English Reformation of the 16th century.

Read Part 8 of the exchange here.

Another letter challenging Ivan Foster’s article on Joe McCann

ThebelfastnewsletterThis also appeared in the “Belfast Newsletter.” Below is the letter and Rev. Foster’s reply.

I feel compelled to address some of the falsehoods in Rev Ivan Foster’s lengthy letter (July 27).

1. The Rev talks about Roman Catholics – the term Roman used as a derogatory term by some unionists to describe their Catholic neighbours, most of who, including myself, have never been to Rome. Protestants in days gone bye would not darken the door of a chapel. Thankfully that has changed and visa versa.

2. What Rev Foster do you describe as Roman Catholic terrorism? Let me knowRead more

Newspaper correspondent takes issue with Rev. Foster’s words about IRA man Joe McCann

ThebelfastnewsletterThe following letter appeared in “The Belfast Newsletter” on July 25th.

I felt that I had to answer it because of its reiteration of the lies by which the IRA sought to justify its campaign of murder and terror.

I give first the letter from a “Mr Paul Shore” of Dublin and then my reply which has been submitted to the Editor of “The Belfast Newsletter”.

I just feel moved to write a few lines in response to Ivan Foster’s short piece on his memories of the death of Joe McCann (July 23).

He opines that Mr McCann chose “the gun instead of Christ” and seems to feel elevated enough to pass judgement on the aforementioned’s eternal soul.

As a native of Ulster, I couldn’t help but recall a dim memory of Mr Foster sporting a red beret as a founding member of ‘Ulster Resistance’ which, if my memory serves me well, had no qualms in collaborating with loyalist murder gangs in procuring arms and threatening violence….Read more

Doing what angels are not allowed to do

bible_imageActs 5:19-20

A message preached in Kilskeery FPC, 1st June 1986 by Rev. Ivan Foster

The sect of the Sadducees correspond with those today who say that everyone has a right to speak and do as they wish!

This apparently liberal attitude took on its true face when they encountered the preacher of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. Then they became very illiberal!

In the passage before us they are filled with indignation and imprison ALL the apostles for doing that which should fill all men with joy and gratitude. The apostles’ crimes are listed in verses 12, 14-16.

“And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon’s porch. . . . .And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.) Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them. There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one.”

This clearly gives us the pedigree of the Sadducees. They were the devil’s offspring!

I wept over IRA death, says Paisley associate

Northern Ireland daily newspaper features story of 1966 imprisonment of 3 Free Presbyterian ministers

By Sam McBride

Joe_McCannA former DUP firebrand Assemblyman and Free Presbyterian minister has told how he wept when he heard that an IRA man had been shot dead by a paratrooper.

Writing in today’s News Letter, the Rev Ivan Foster recounts how when he was jailed with Ian Paisley half a century ago he struck up an unlikely relationship with Official IRA man Joe McCann.

The Rev Foster – who was seen as one of the most uncompromising DUP members and who at one point in the 1980s was the Fermanagh commander of the quasi-military Third Force – said that he had explained his faith to the young IRA man and that they had discussed their religious views while working in the Crumlin Road Jail.

The Rev Foster, who represented the area in Stormont during the 1980s, said that the Falls Road-born paramilitary had been a “dedicated IRA man”.

Recalling the moment when he heard of the 24-year-old’s death, the Rev Foster said: “I freely admit my heart was filled with grief and I shed tears over the sad fate of that young man.”

The Rev Foster – who in 2007 used his pulpit to denounce Dr Paisley’s moves towards power-sharing with Sinn Fein – also said that the period around their jailing had been pivotal to the growth of the Free Presbyterian Church.

Joe McCann, IRA gunman, and his three months under the gospel

mccann_2by Rev Ivan Foster

The death of IRA man, Joe McCann, is once again in the news. Attempts are being made to put on trial those soldiers who were involved in the firefight when Joe McCann was shot by paratroopers.

McCann (24) was commander of the Official IRA’s third Belfast battalion. In February 1972, McCann was involved in the attempted assassination of Ulster Unionist politician John Taylor. He was regarded by the security forces as a dangerous terrorist. McCann was shot by soldiers in disputed circumstances in Joy Street in the Markets area, close to his home, on April 15, 1972.

One of the men, Soldier C, is a grandfather from Hampshire, England, who served with distinction for 23 years. “How can this be justice?” he asked. “It is a disgrace. I was doing my duty in Northern Ireland, trying to protect the public and keep the peace. Now I am being thrown to the wolves.” Read more

A New British Prime Minister — “Same Old Same Old”

theresa-mayIn her first speech as Prime Minister, Mrs Theresa May gushed in her admiration of her predecessor, David Cameron following his political demise. Cameron wished to be remembered as one who promoted ‘same-sex marriage’. The ‘Telegraph’ reported the matter thus: “In a clear bid to define the legacy that he will leave behind him, he spoke of his pride at . . . . introducing gay marriage,” 13th July 2016.

What a shameful, wicked, God-defying, self-dictated political epitaph! The spirit of Cameron, very prevalent in British politics for a number of decades now, ever since openly sodomite politicians were considered suitable for high public office by the British voting public, is set to continue in Mrs Theresa May’s government.  Read more

A YOUNG Earth – An OLD Truth

ArkSome Comments on remarks on the Bible’s account of creation by deceived and deceitful Evolutionists

By Rev Ivan Foster

Recently, the opening of a “Noah’s Ark” theme park by Dr Ken Ham, founder of “Answers in Genesis” organisation, aroused the ire of evolutionists who so hate any setting forth of the Bible truth of a 6-day creation and a young earth view.

The following comments were published by The Telegraph of 8th July 2016.

“Nathaniel Jeanson is a Harvard-educated biologist. For the past year, he has been involved in a spectacular $100 million project, designed to educate and astonish the world.

His project, however, has left many scientists in despair. Read more

Securing the future by remembering the past, Part 2.

Psalm 78

(Preached in Kilskeery Free Presbyterian Church, Lord’s Day morning, 3rd July 2016.

In the first part of this message, preached three weeks ago, we sought to highlight how sinful it is to forget the mercy that the Lord has displayed toward us in His past dealings with us.
The main point I made then was:

I. THE TERRIBLE SIN OF FORGETTING THE LORD….

We take up the message again and wish you to observe that:

II. THE CHIEF EVIDENCE OF THIS SIN IS SEEN IN OUR HOMES.

The word ‘hide’, verse 4, means to ‘conceal, to cut off’, Exodus 9:15. What God did to Pharaoh, this we do to our children when we ‘cut off’ God’s truth from them.

1. Consider just what is the duty of fathers. This refers to natural fathers as well as the ‘fathers’ of the church, the elders. “Shewing to the generation to come the praises of the LORD, and his strength, and his wonderful works that he hath done,” verse 4. You must be well acquainted with such ‘wonderful works’ before you can teach them to your children.

A tribute to one of the many – an uncle we never met.

George_Foster_Lily_editedUncle George Forster (the spelling of the surname was changed for some unknown reason in the early part of the 20th century) was the fourth child of Leslie and Mary Jane Forster. He was born at the family farm at Ballymackilroy, Lisnaskea, Co. Fermanagh.
He joined the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers while underage. He served in Dublin during the 1916 Easter Rising before going to France.

He was killed in action at Savy Wood, close to the village of Savy which is a few miles from St Quentin, in Picardy, France.

A younger brother, my Uncle William, told me the story of how, when he was in training, having just joined the Royal Ulster Constabulary in 1922, he met a former British Army captain who had also joined. On learning my Uncle’s surname, he related how he had a sergeant served under him in France by that name. It turned out it was Uncle George. The captain was able to relate the circumstances in which Uncle George was killed. The captain was leading one half of a patrol with Uncle George leading the other on 1st April, 1917. Uncle George was going down one side of Savy Wood and the captain going down the other. They had nearly met up when a German shell killed Uncle George. Read more

Europe in Bible Prophecy

EU_flagThe subject of Europe is very prominent in the news at present and that interest has only increased not diminished since the outcome of the EU referendum has been decided.

We are constantly being told by all political leaders what this result means?, what is going to happen now? and where it will all lead? It seems that everyone has an opinion to give or a statement to make on the subject! All of which has only led to greater confusion, division and uncertainty.

But the question that should concern us as Bible believing Christians is – What saith the Scriptures? What does the Word of God have to say on the subject of the future of Europe? That should be our response to every situation and subject in life and our nation’s membership of the European Union should be no different.

Read Part 7 of the exchange here.
