II. THE POWER AT WORK IN THE BELIEVER IS THE SAME POWER THAT RAISED CHRIST FROM THE DEAD

1. It is the same in its essence. The power by which Christ was raised from the grave is the very same power at work in you, Christian. Rom 6:4, 8:11; Eph 2:6; Col 2:12, raised with Him.

2. It is the same in its purpose.  Eph 1:20-23; 2:6.

3. The same in its invincibility. All things are under his feet. So our victory is assured.

III. THE ANALOGY PAUL USES CONFIRMS THIS ASSURANCE
The Church is Christ’s body. He is our Head..

1. Each believer is intimately and indissolubly linked to Christ. It is a glorious unity. We spring from Him, John 15:5.

2. Each believer is under His headship. He is the source of our life, our energy.

3. Each believer has access to the fulness of Christ. Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all, verse 23. We are all partakers of the divine nature, 2 Peter 1:4.

4. What is true of Christ is true of us. Where the ark went so did Noah. So it is with us and our “Ark.” Eph 2:6. We are where He is. A right view of this will give us victory in prayer and in life.

Bright and shining lights in the Bible #25

Scripture: Hebrews 11:23 By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king’s commandment.

We continue where we left off last Friday in what may well be the last assembly for quite some time. We are living in strange times, boys and girls.!

We considered how Moses was born into danger and how that pictures everyone of us because we are born in sin and subject to God’s judgement.

We also noted that the faith in the Lord that his mother and father had moved them to seek to shelter him from danger. They were not afraid of Pharaoh but obeyed God.

  1. Moses was favoured of God from his birth. When “Moses was born” he “was exceeding (theos—God’s name) fair”, acts 7:20. The suggestion is that his fairness was in God’s eyes! He was hidden from the death sentence of Pharaoh, Ex 1:22. He was then “nourished up in his father’s house three months”’ Acts 7:20.
  2. Those that God favours He will protect. Acts 7:21. How wonderful are God’s ways! Right under the ‘devil’s nose’ the Lord is able to raise those who will defeat the devil! “All the saints salute you, chiefly they that are of Caesar’s household”, Phil 4:22. Boys and girls, it is still the same today!
  3. In all this the Lord was preparing Moses for future service. “And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and deeds”. Acts 7:22. How often the enemies of God are used to prepare their own destruction! “So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai’” Esther 7:10. “Therefore shall they eat the fruit of their own way and be filled with their own devices,” Prov 1:31.

“Be not deceived, God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth that shall he also read, “Gal 6:7.

This is what is happening in the world today!

A word about the coronavirus

Scripture: Psalm 91:1-16

I am going to speak today on the outbreak of a disease amongst the nations which is causing difficulties and disruptions the like of which have not been seen since World War II. Schools, shops and all places where people gather have been closed in many countries. Airlines and other such businesses are facing bankruptcy as a result of the many restrictions that the spread of this disease has brought upon nations.

I want to say something regarding this matter for there are many people very frightened about catching this virus.

Firstly, as a general rule, young people have very, very little to worry about. Virtually every healthy adult who may catch it will recover quickly and without any real stress or discomfort.

There are a few, like me, who must take some special precautions to avoid the virus. With care even should I catch it, I should recover.

I want to show you what the Bible has to say on this subject.

1. Sicknesses are the result of man’s fall. Sin brought death into this world but for the Christian death is but the door to heaven.

2. The Lord has sometimes sent disease and sickness as a judgment upon the wicked. Exodus 9:2-6, 9-11, 12:29.

3. In the final years of this age, the Lord will visit the earth with plagues. Rev 11:6 (2 witnesses); 15:1, 16:1-21.
Christians in that day, which I believe is not far off, will see scenes like that witnessed by Israel in Egypt!

4. For the child of God, a comforting assurance is given. Psalm 91:10, Ps 121:7, Pro 12:21, Deut 7:15.

Our Saviour has power over all sickness and disease, Mark 3:10, Luke 7:20-22. To Him we may turn for protection. We may seek the shelter of the blood of Calvary as did the Israelites in the night of the Passover!
