Wars and rumours of war

A ‘watchman’, in the Biblical sense, is one who watches for significant events and who reports these to the citizens whose interests he is seeking to guard.

There are significant events taking place in the world in these times which need the attention of the people of God directed to them.

That is the duty of the occupant of the pulpit. While I do not have a pulpit, I do have a pen and I am pressed in my heart to issue a comment on these events, while I can.

WARS AND RUMOURS OF WAR

“And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet,” Matthew 24:6.

There are reports of many tragic events filling the news bulletins of late. We cannot avoid ‘hearing’ of such things. Hearts have been broken, families bereaved and that often times as a result of human folly, pride and outright depravity.

The murder of little ones, often by their own mothers and fathers, is distressingly common. It is impossible to comprehend such wickedness and cruelty to helpless little ones. Such crimes are inexplicable except when seen as but clear examples of the Biblical truth, that mankind, having chosen not “to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them,” Romans 1:28-32.

Two headlines this morning illustrate yet again the relevance of God’s Word and the omniscience of our Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ.

Russia LIVE: Wagner troops hit by Russian airstrikes as ‘civil war has officially begun’

In Matthew 24, the Saviour clearly maps out for us the events that will mark the approach of the end of this age. WARS, AND RUMOURS (reports) OF WAR will be a feature of the closing stages of this era.

But more is to follow, the Saviour says!

How unstable the world has become! It never was far from chaos and confusion but recent events have commentators searching for expressions to describe their amazement and shock at the unfolding of events in Russia and Ukraine.

That conflict has sucked in many nations, the United Kingdom, the United States, France, Germany and others for they have chosen to supply Ukraine with much military hardware and £billions of support.

That potentially makes them targets for psychopath Putin’s threatened retaliation.

That opens up unthinkable possibilities!

Kim Jong-un facing revolt as North Koreans call for US to attack their country

Here we have another despot whose insanity is beyond debate since he has virtually starved his people, while seeking to build an arsenal of weapons, in order flaunt himself upon the world’s political stage as a powerful leader whose opinions need to be heeded!

The ‘spirit’ which is seen in its fulness in Putin and Kim Jong-un, is abroad everywhere. We suffer from it here in Ulster as do people everywhere in the ‘democratic’ world. The imposing of evil abortion laws upon Northern Ireland, the sleekit and gradual pushing of us out of the United Kingdom by the mini-despots in Westminster, by means of the ‘Windsor Agreement’ on the ‘EU Protocol’, are but two examples. The recent exposure of the machinations of Boris Johnson and his deceits and lies, is another.

The embarrassing verbal and physical stumblings of Joe Biden and the manifestation of his hatred of all things British, while professing that there is a ‘special relationship’ between the USA and the UK, must be mortifying for any sensible US citizen.

This is but a foretaste of what is to come when we closely consider the word of God and the prophecies, that we are COMMANDED to heed are rightly considered!

The study of these prophecies will bring us comfort for we will see that God is in sovereign control of all things. It was this truth that the Saviour emphasised when comforting frightened John.

“And when I saw him, I fell at his feet as dead. And he laid his right hand upon me, saying unto me, Fear not; I am the first and the last: I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death,” Revelation 1:17-18.
