“By this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme,” 2 Samuel 12:14.
These words were spoken of David and gave the reason for the many troubles that came upon him following his wicked liaison with Bathsheba and the evil steps he took to conceal his wickedness.
2 Samuel chapter 11 records the sad tale of man’s, even a good man’s, propensity to depart from God!
David’s sin has caused the Lord to be blasphemed for some 3000 years and it will continue to be until the end of time.
I recall back some 45 years ago in the early 1980s, I visited an elderly man who was unsaved but who had loved ones praying for him. I called one evening and when I raised the subject of salvation through Christ, he referred to David’s sin. He asked how anyone could give any credence to ‘being saved’ when David acted like that?
That began a most earnest exchange which lasted quite some time! I recall thinking to myself about midway through the discussion that the matter had become so serious and indeed heated, that I could not back down now without conceding ‘defeat’! So I pressed on in my seeking to refute the idea that David’s sin gave grounds for doubting the reality of salvation by faith in Christ’s atoning blood.
The atmosphere did change and, became calmer and, I can say, more friendly. In the end, as I prepared to take my departure, the old man accompanied me to the end of his lane where my car was parked and I believe we parted friends.
I am most happy to say that that old man is in heaven, for sometime later, as his life was ending, he indicated to his family how he had called upon the Lord for mercy.
It is but one example of how the sin of a good man like David, who has fallen, can be used by the devil as a hindrance to sinners believing the gospel.
Ammo for the devil
The sins of God’s people have ever been a means of the devil mocking, sneering and blaspheming the Lord.
I am sure that there was much derisive laughter around Jerusalem following Peter’s repeated denials of the Saviour (Luke 22:54-62). And that laughter would have increased and swelled at the cowardly actions of all His disciples. “But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled,” Matthew 26:56.
That was not the ultimate the Saviour suffered by way of disparagement.
The Sin-Bearer
In the mystery of God’s eternal purpose of redemption, His Son offered Himself as a sacrifice for the sins of His elect. In so doing, Christ suffered utter rejection by His Father on the cross. The Saviour, as the bearer of the sins of His people, was made “to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him,” 2 Corinthians 5:21.
Being made to be sin, He was forsaken of His Father on the cross and suffered the eternal guilt of His elect.
“Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree,” Galatians 3:13.
D W Whittle put it well in a hymn he wrote:
The wrath of God that was our due,
Upon the Lamb was laid;
And by the shedding of His blood,
The debt for us was paid.
Thus we see that Christ suffered the ultimate in reproach and shame and belittlement because of the sins of those who were His. He was forsaken of His Father because of our sins!
Example
How dreadful it is that a Christian, one for whom the Saviour had endured such mocking at Calvary, should be the cause of yet further mockery being heaped upon His glorious name?
That is the outcome of the repudiation of the former alliance the DUP claimed to have with the gospel cause in Ulster.
The headlines in the ‘Belfast News’ of May 22nd, 2025, read as follows:
New stained glass window at Belfast City Hall honours pivotal moments in LGBTQ+ history
A picture of the window appeared in many news outlets.
The caption beneath this photo declared: Lord Mayor of Belfast, Councillor Micky Murray, beside a new stained glass window in City Hall, celebrating the contribution of the city’s LGBTQ+ community.
The news report stated: “Belfast City Council has paid tribute to the local LGBTQ+ community with the installation of a vibrant new stained glass window in City Hall.
This artistic addition, which portrays key moments in the journey of the community, was crafted in collaboration with sector representatives.
The initiative enjoyed cross-party backing, resulting in the prominent positioning of the window on City Hall’s ground floor. This marks a continuation of the 15-year mission to make the building a shared space for all citizens.
Featuring quotes and nods to modern LGBTQ+ figures as well as depictions of significant events and campaigning imagery from groups such as Love Equality and Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners, the design is rich with symbolism.
The use of bright colours echoes the hues of the Progress Pride flag, and green carnations bordering the window pay homage to Oscar Wilde.”
One of the symbols on this window is that of a T-shirt with a slogan.
When the photo is enlarged the slogan becomes more readable.
It reads: ‘SAVE SODOMY FROM ULSTER’.
That is a mocking, sneering and gloating reference to a campaign launched by the Democratic Unionist Party in the past.

‘Save Ulster from Sodomy was a political campaign launched in 1977 by Ian Paisley, MP, then leader of the Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) and Free Presbyterian Church, to prevent the decriminalisation of homosexuality in Northern Ireland. The campaign was ultimately unsuccessful.’
Sodomite Takeover!
It not only failed but in truth sodomites have taken over the DUP!
It was so unsuccessful that the DUP has no compunctions about endorsing, putting forward and running a sodomite as a candidate in local elections here!
Even more sad is the sinful fact that some Free Presbyterians continue to back and support the DUP, despite its evil compromise and utter defiance of God’s Word!
Repentance
David the Psalmist repented of his evil deeds. Psalm 51 record that fact. But apart from a few who openly broke with the DUP when it put forward its first sodomite candidate, Free Presbyterian members within the party still continue to associate themselves with this wickedness, with no open or effective objections from the church’s leadership.

But the protests seem to have faded away despite the fact that the DUP has sunk even lower in compromise and perfidiousness!
Sodomite invited to join DUP!
Back in February 2024, Michael Palmer, a self-confessed sodomite, announcing that he has responded positively to an invitation from the DUP leadership to join the party.
The self-acknowledged pervert stated this: ‘‘I’m still a moderate, secular, gay unionist… DUP ticks all the boxes.’
Alison Bennington, another self-confessed pervert, has been twice elected to Antrim & Newtownabbey Borough Council as a DUP councillor. It is little wonder the ‘LGBTQ+ community’ are sniggering and celebrating.
In truth, it is worse than dreadful that Free Presbyterians remain silent in the face of this betrayal of God’s truth and our gospel heritage by continuing to support the DUP, since it has become a pro-sodomite party!
