THE GOLDEN AGE – When will it dawn? Part 2

“‭The wilderness‭ and the solitary place‭ shall be glad‭‭ for them; and the desert‭ shall rejoice‭‭, and blossom‭‭ as the rose‭.‭ ‭It shall blossom‭‭ abundantly‭‭, and rejoice‭‭ even with joy‭ and singing‭‭: the glory‭ of Lebanon‭ shall be given‭‭ unto it, the excellency‭ of Carmel‭ and Sharon‭, they shall see‭‭ the glory‭ of the LORD‭, ‭and‭ the excellency‭ of our God‭,‭”‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ Isaiah 35:1-2.

I was prompted to consider this subject by the foolish boasting of the recently inaugurated president of the United States, Mr Donald Trump. He is a man renowned for his swank and swagger and vain-glorious self-promotion. But even he ‘outstrips’ himself when he claims that his election is an indication that America’s ‘Golden Age’ has begun.

Our last study brought us to the end of this age. What will follow is clearly stated to be so in the Word of God.

THE NEXT AGE WILL LAST FOR 1000 YEARS

The following quotation from Revelation chapter 20, follows on from the closing verses of Revelation chapter 19.

“‭And‭ I saw‭‭ heaven‭ opened‭‭, and‭ behold‭‭ a white‭ horse‭; and‭ he that sat‭‭ upon‭ him‭ ‭was‭ called‭‭ Faithful‭ and‭ True‭, and‭ in‭ righteousness‭ he doth judge‭‭ and‭ make war‭‭.‭ ‭ His‭ eyes‭ ‭were‭ as‭ a flame‭ of fire‭, and‭ on‭ his‭ head‭ ‭were‭ many‭ crowns‭; and he had‭‭ a name‭ written‭‭, that‭ no man‭ knew‭‭, but‭ he himself‭.‭ ‭And‭ he ‭was‭ clothed‭‭ with a vesture‭ dipped‭‭ in blood‭: and‭ his‭ name‭ is called‭‭ The Word‭ of God‭.‭ ‭And‭ the armies‭ ‭which were‭ in‭ heaven‭ followed‭‭ him‭ upon‭ white‭ horses‭, clothed‭‭ in fine linen‭, white‭ and‭ clean‭.‭ ‭And‭ out of‭ his‭ mouth‭ goeth‭‭ a sharp‭ sword‭, that‭ with‭ it‭ he should smite‭‭ the nations‭: and‭ he‭ shall rule‭‭ them‭ with‭ a rod‭ of iron‭: and‭ he‭ treadeth‭‭ the winepress‭‭ of the fierceness‭ and‭ wrath‭ of Almighty‭ God‭.‭ ‭And‭ he hath‭‭ on‭ ‭his‭ vesture‭ and‭ on‭ his‭ thigh‭ a name‭ written‭‭, KING‭ OF KINGS‭, AND‭ LORD‭ OF LORDS‭.‭ ‭And‭ I saw‭‭ an‭ angel‭ standing‭‭ in‭ the sun‭; and‭ he cried‭‭ with a loud‭ voice‭, saying‭‭ to all‭ the fowls‭ that fly‭‭ in‭ the midst of heaven‭, Come‭‭ and‭ gather yourselves together‭‭ unto‭ the supper‭ of the great‭ God‭;‭ ‭That‭ ye may eat‭‭ the flesh‭ of kings‭, and‭ the flesh‭ of captains‭, and‭ the flesh‭ of mighty men‭, and‭ the flesh‭ of horses‭, and‭ of them that sit‭‭ on‭ them‭, and‭ the flesh‭ of all‭ ‭men, both‭ free‭ and‭ bond‭, both‭ small‭ and‭ great‭.‭ ‭And‭ I saw‭‭ the beast‭, and‭ the kings‭ of the earth‭, and‭ their‭ armies‭, gathered together‭‭ to make‭‭ war‭ against‭ him that sat‭‭ on‭ the horse‭, and‭ against‭ his‭ army‭.‭ ‭And‭ the beast‭ was taken‭‭, and‭ with‭ him‭ the false prophet‭ that wrought‭‭ miracles‭ before‭ him‭, with‭ which‭ he deceived‭‭ them that had received‭‭ the mark‭ of the beast‭, and‭ them that worshipped‭‭ his‭ image‭. The conjunction, ‘and’ with which chapter 20 begins indicates clearly the time of the events in the chapter — they immediately follow the return of Christ to this earth!

“‭And‭ I saw‭‭ an angel‭ come down‭‭ from‭ heaven‭, having‭‭ the key‭ of the bottomless pit‭ and‭ a great‭ chain‭ in‭ his‭ hand‭.‭ ‭And‭ he laid hold on‭‭ the dragon‭, that old‭ serpent‭, which‭ is‭‭ the Devil‭, and‭ Satan‭, and‭ bound‭‭ him‭ a thousand‭ years‭,‭ ‭And‭ cast‭‭ him‭ into‭ the bottomless pit‭, and‭ shut‭‭ him‭ up‭‭, and‭ set a seal‭‭ upon‭ him‭, that‭‭ he should deceive‭‭ the nations‭ no‭ more‭, till‭ the thousand‭ years‭ should be fulfilled‭‭: and‭ after‭ that‭ he‭ must‭‭ be loosed‭‭ a little‭ season‭.‭ ‭And‭ I saw‭‭ thrones‭, and‭ they sat‭‭ upon‭ them‭, and‭ judgment‭ was given‭‭ unto them‭: and‭ ‭I saw‭ the souls‭ of them that were beheaded‭‭ for‭ the witness‭ of Jesus‭, and‭ for‭ the word‭ of God‭, and‭ which‭ had‭‭ not‭ worshipped‭‭ the beast‭, neither‭ his‭ image‭,‭ neither‭ had received‭‭ ‭his‭ mark‭ upon‭ their‭ foreheads‭, or‭ in‭ their‭ hands‭; and‭ they lived‭‭ and‭ reigned‭‭ with‭ Christ‭ a thousand‭ years‭.‭ ‭But‭ the rest‭ of the dead‭ lived‭‭ not‭ again‭‭ until‭ the thousand‭ years‭ were finished‭‭. This‭ ‭is‭ the first‭ resurrection‭.‭ ‭Blessed‭ and‭ holy‭ ‭is‭ he that hath‭‭ part‭ in‭ the first‭ resurrection‭: on‭ such‭ the second‭ death‭ hath‭‭ no‭ power‭, but‭ they shall be‭‭ priests‭ of God‭ and‭ of Christ‭, and‭ shall reign‭‭ with‭ him‭ a thousand‭ years‭,‭”‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ Revelation 20:1-6. The term a ‘thousand years’ appears yet again in verse 7, making six repetitions of this period in all. And yet still many cannot accept that a literal 1000 years is meant. Foolishly, men offer you a variety of durations, which in their view is the meaning of the term ‘one thousand years’!

I simply take God at His Word as I believe He would have us all do!

1. Christ shall rule the earth from Jerusalem. This is repeatedly revealed to us in Holy Scripture..

That godly woman, Hannah, in her prayer makes mention of that which was part of the revelation of God to ancient Israel.

“‭The adversaries‭‭ of the LORD‭ shall be broken to pieces‭‭; out of heaven‭ shall he thunder‭‭ upon them: the LORD‭ shall judge‭‭ the ends‭ of the earth‭; and he shall give‭‭ strength‭ unto his king‭, and exalt‭‭ the horn‭ of his anointed‭,‭”‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ 1 Samuel 2:10.

The Psalmist David, and also Asaph, gives us a clear record of the final days of rebellion on this earth, days, I believe we can see emerging all around us!

“‭Why do the heathen‭ rage‭‭, and the people‭ imagine‭‭ a vain thing‭?‭ ‭The kings‭ of the earth‭ set‭‭ themselves, and the rulers‭‭ take counsel‭‭ together‭, against the LORD‭, and against his anointed‭, ‭saying‭,‭ ‭Let us break‭‭ their bands‭ asunder‭‭, and cast away‭‭ their cords‭ from us.‭ ‭He that sitteth‭‭ in the heavens‭ shall laugh‭‭: the Lord‭ shall have them in derision‭‭.‭ ‭Then shall he speak‭‭ unto them in his wrath‭, and vex‭‭ them in his sore displeasure‭.‭ ‭Yet have I set‭‭ my king‭ upon my holy‭ hill‭ of Zion‭.‭ ‭I will declare‭‭ the decree‭: the LORD‭ hath said‭‭ unto me, Thou ‭art‭ my Son‭; this day‭ have I begotten‭‭ thee.‭ ‭Ask‭‭ of me, and I shall give‭‭ ‭thee‭ the heathen‭ ‭for‭ thine inheritance‭, and the uttermost parts‭ of the earth‭ ‭for‭ thy possession‭.‭ ‭Thou shalt break‭‭ them with a rod‭ of iron‭; thou shalt dash them in pieces‭‭ like a potter’s‭‭ vessel‭.‭ ‭Be wise‭‭ now therefore, O ye kings‭: be instructed‭‭, ye judges‭‭ of the earth‭.‭ ‭Serve‭‭ the LORD‭ with fear‭, and rejoice‭‭ with trembling‭.‭ ‭Kiss‭‭ the Son‭, lest he be angry‭‭, and ye perish‭‭ ‭from‭ the way‭, when his wrath‭ is kindled‭‭ but a little‭. “‭Arise‭‭, O God‭, judge‭‭ the earth‭: for thou shalt inherit‭‭ all nations‭,‭”‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ Psalm 82:8.

“‭Say‭‭ among the heathen‭ ‭that‭ the LORD‭ reigneth‭‭: the world‭ also shall be established‭‭ that it shall not be moved‭‭: he shall judge‭‭ the people‭ righteously‭.‭ ‭Let the heavens‭ rejoice‭‭, and let the earth‭ be glad‭‭; let the sea‭ roar‭‭, and the fulness‭ thereof.‭ ‭Let the field‭ be joyful‭‭, and all that ‭is‭ therein: then shall all the trees‭ of the wood‭ rejoice‭‭ ‭Before‭ the LORD‭: for he cometh‭‭, for he cometh‭‭ to judge‭‭ the earth‭: he shall judge‭‭ the world‭ with righteousness‭, and the people‭ with his truth‭,‭”‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ Psalm 96:10-13.

“‭And it shall come to pass in the last‭ days‭, ‭that‭ the mountain‭ of the LORD’S‭ house‭ shall be established‭‭ in the top‭ of the mountains‭, and shall be exalted‭‭ above the hills‭; and all nations‭ shall flow‭‭ unto it.‭ ‭And many‭ people‭ shall go‭‭ and say‭‭, Come‭‭ ye, and let us go up‭‭ to the mountain‭ of the LORD‭, to the house‭ of the God‭ of Jacob‭; and he will teach‭‭ us of his ways‭, and we will walk‭‭ in his paths‭: for out of Zion‭ shall go forth‭‭ the law‭, and the word‭ of the LORD‭ from Jerusalem‭.‭ ‭And he shall judge‭‭ among the nations‭, and shall rebuke‭‭ many‭ people‭: and they shall beat‭‭ their swords‭ into plowshares‭, and their spears‭ into pruninghooks‭: nation‭ shall not lift up‭‭ sword‭ against nation‭, neither shall they learn‭‭ war‭ any more,‭”‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ Isaiah 2:2-4.

Micah the prophet is inspired to repeat these words for emphasis.

“‭But in the last‭ days‭ it shall come to pass, ‭that‭ the mountain‭ of the house‭ of the LORD‭ shall be established‭‭ in the top‭ of the mountains‭, and it shall be exalted‭‭ above the hills‭; and people‭ shall flow‭‭ unto it.‭ ‭And many‭ nations‭ shall come‭‭, and say‭‭, Come‭‭, and let us go up‭‭ to the mountain‭ of the LORD‭, and to the house‭ of the God‭ of Jacob‭; and he will teach‭‭ us of his ways‭, and we will walk‭‭ in his paths‭: for the law‭ shall go forth‭‭ of Zion‭, and the word‭ of the LORD‭ from Jerusalem‭.‭ ‭And he shall judge‭‭ among many‭ people‭, and rebuke‭‭ strong‭ nations‭ afar off‭; and they shall beat‭‭ their swords‭ into plowshares‭, and their spears‭ into pruninghooks‭: nation‭ shall not lift up‭‭ a sword‭ against nation‭, neither shall they learn‭‭ war‭ any more.‭ ‭But they shall sit‭‭ every man‭ under his vine‭ and under his fig tree‭; and none shall make ‭them‭ afraid‭‭: for the mouth‭ of the LORD‭ of hosts‭ hath spoken‭‭ ‭it‭,‭”‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ Micah 4:1-4.

Pictures of Israel’s Day of Victory

On Friday past, I read Esther chapter 8, which depicts the downfall of Haman the Agagite‭ and the exaltation of Mordecai and the victory of the Jews over those determined to see them utterly destroyed. Such was the triumph of God’s ancient people in the days of Esther that it is reported that “In every‭ province‭, and in every‭ city‭, whithersoever‭ the king’s‭ commandment‭ and his decree‭ came‭‭, the Jews‭ had joy‭ and gladness‭, a feast‭ and a good‭ day‭. And many‭ of the people‭ of the land‭ became Jews‭‭; for the fear‭ of the Jews‭ fell‭‭ upon them,‭”‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ ‭Esther 8:17.‬

This is but one of the many instances in which God has written in the events which occurred in the affairs of nations a foreshadowing of what will take place in that day of triumph for the Jewish people when Christ returns.

Isaiah Prophesied of That Time

“‭And it shall come to pass in that day‭, ‭that‭ the Lord‭ shall set‭‭ his hand‭ again‭‭ the second time‭ to recover‭‭ the remnant‭ of his people‭, which shall be left‭‭, from Assyria‭, and from Egypt‭, and from Pathros‭, and from Cush‭, and from Elam‭, and from Shinar‭, and from Hamath‭, and from the islands‭ of the sea‭.‭ ‭And he shall set up‭‭ an ensign‭ for the nations‭, and shall assemble‭‭ the outcasts‭‭ of Israel‭, and gather together‭‭ the dispersed‭‭ of Judah‭ from the four‭ corners‭ of the earth‭.‭ ‭The envy‭ also of Ephraim‭ shall depart‭‭, and the adversaries‭‭ of Judah‭ shall be cut off‭‭: Ephraim‭ shall not envy‭‭ Judah‭, and Judah‭ shall not vex‭‭ Ephraim‭.‭ ‭But they shall fly‭‭ upon the shoulders‭ of the Philistines‭ toward the west‭; they shall spoil‭‭ them‭ of the east‭ together‭: they shall lay‭ their hand‭ upon Edom‭ and Moab‭; and the children‭ of Ammon‭ shall obey‭ them.‭ ‭And the LORD‭ shall utterly destroy‭‭ the tongue‭ of the Egyptian‭ sea‭; and with his mighty‭ wind‭ shall he shake‭‭ his hand‭ over the river‭, and shall smite‭‭ it in the seven‭ streams‭, and make ‭men‭ go over‭‭ dryshod‭.‭ ‭And there shall be an highway‭ for the remnant‭ of his people‭, which‭ shall be left‭‭, from Assyria‭; like as it was to Israel‭ in the day‭ that he came up‭‭ out of the land‭ of Egypt‭.‭ ‭And in that day‭ thou shalt say‭‭, O LORD‭, I will praise‭‭ thee: though thou wast angry‭‭ with me, thine anger‭ is turned away‭‭, and thou comfortedst‭‭ me.‭ ‭Behold, God‭ ‭is‭ my salvation‭; I will trust‭‭, and not be afraid‭‭: for the LORD‭ JEHOVAH‭ ‭is‭ my strength‭ and ‭my‭ song‭; he also is become my salvation‭.‭ ‭Therefore with joy‭ shall ye draw‭‭ water‭ out of the wells‭ of salvation‭.‭ ‭And in that day‭ shall ye say‭‭, Praise‭‭ the LORD‭, call‭‭ upon his name‭, declare‭‭ his doings‭ among the people‭, make mention‭‭ that his name‭ is exalted‭‭.‭ ‭Sing‭‭ unto the LORD‭; for he hath done‭‭ excellent things‭: this ‭is‭ known‭‭‭‭‭ in all the earth‭.‭ ‭Cry out‭‭ and shout‭‭, thou inhabitant‭‭ of Zion‭: for great‭ ‭is‭ the Holy One‭ of Israel‭ in the midst‭ of thee,‭”‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ Isaiah 11:11-12:6.

“‭Who hath heard‭‭ such a thing? who hath seen‭‭ such things? 2. In that 1000 years, the resurrected and glorified saints shall reign with Christ on this earth. That is stated in the verses from Revelation 20 we have already quoted. “I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.”

Christ had referred to the saints reigning with Him during His earthly ministry. The word ‘reign’ means to ‘exercise kingly power and authority’. Recall the parable of “a certain‭ nobleman‭‭ went‭‭ into‭ a far‭ country‭ to receive‭‭ for himself‭ a kingdom‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬”, Luke 19:11-27. The parable refers to the reward received by those who “had been faithful” while their Lord was away and did not take part in the rejection of him as did some. The rewards were dispensed as follows. “‭And‭ it came to pass‭‭, that when‭ he‭ was returned‭‭, having received‭‭ the kingdom‭, then‭ he commanded‭‭ these‭ servants‭ to be called‭‭ unto him‭, to whom‭ he had given‭‭ the money‭, that‭ he might know‭‭ how much‭ every man‭ had gained by trading‭‭.‭ ‭Then‭ came‭‭ the first‭, saying‭‭, Lord‭, thy‭ pound‭ hath gained‭‭ ten‭ pounds‭.‭ ‭And‭ he said‭‭ unto him‭, Well‭, thou good‭ servant‭: because‭ thou hast been‭‭ faithful‭ in‭ a very little‭, have‭‭ thou authority‭‭‭ over‭ ten‭ cities‭.‭ ‭And‭ the second‭ came‭‭, saying‭‭, Lord‭, thy‭ pound‭ hath gained‭‭ five‭ pounds‭.‭ ‭And‭ he said‭‭ likewise‭ to him‭, Be‭‭ thou‭ also‭ over‭ five‭ cities‭,‭”‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ Luke 19:15-19.

The word “authority” carries the meaning of ‘all power, the power of rule or government’. This dispensing of rewards comes at the time ‭when the nobleman, who pictures Christ for us,‭‭‭‭‭ was returned‭‭, “having received‭‭ the kingdom‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬”, and he assembles his servants before him.

It is universally accepted amongst believers that it refers to the return of Christ to reward His faithful servants. Combined with what Revelation 20:4 says, we surely must believe that there will be apportioned to the faithful servants of Christ a ruling over parts of the earth over which Christ will taken possession of on His return.

3. The earth will be renovated at Christ’s return. Presently, creation is ‘dying’ and its dying groans are witnessed by mankind and, being ignorant of God’s purpose for the earth, increasing fear is manifested by governments, organisations and individuals.

The policies adopted and widely initiated amongst the nations which are designed to combat the increasing pollution of the earth, such as the switch from fossil fuels to electricity via wind and wave power, is evidence of this growing alarm.

Paul stated: “‭For‭ I reckon‭‭ that‭ the sufferings‭ of this present‭ time‭ ‭are‭ not‭ worthy‭ ‭to be compared‭ with‭ the glory‭ which shall‭‭ be revealed‭‭ in‭ us‭.‭ ‭For‭ the earnest expectation‭ of the creature‭ waiteth‭‭ for the manifestation‭ of the sons‭ of God‭.‭ ‭For‭ the creature‭ was made subject‭‭ to vanity‭, not‭ willingly‭, but‭ by reason‭ of him who hath subjected‭‭ ‭the same‭ in‭ hope‭,‭ ‭Because‭ the creature‭ itself‭ also‭ shall be delivered‭‭ from‭ the bondage‭ of corruption‭ into‭ the glorious‭ liberty‭ of the children‭ of God‭.‭ ‭For‭ we know‭‭ that‭ the whole‭ creation‭ groaneth‭‭ and‭ travaileth in pain together‭‭ until‭ now‭.‭ ‭And‭ not‭ only‭ ‭they‭, but‭ ourselves‭ also‭, which have‭‭ the firstfruits‭ of the Spirit‭, even‭ we‭ ourselves‭ groan‭‭ within‭ ourselves‭, waiting‭‭ for the adoption‭, ‭to wit‭, the redemption‭ of our‭ body‭,‭”‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ Romans 8:18-23.

The return of Christ and the glorification that will be experienced by the saints of God is awaited not only by the saints, but as Paul says: “the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.” That is because “the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.”

The word ‘creature’ refers to both the physical creation, the earth and also the creatures of the earth. Thus we have the same word used for the  “creation‭ of the world‬”, Romans 1:20 and also for the ‘creatures” in the world, Romans 1:25.

We can trace predictions of this wonderful ‘renovation’ amongst mankind in texts such as, “‭There shall be no more thence an infant‭ of days‭, nor an old man‭ that hath not filled‭‭ his days‭: for the child‭ shall die‭‭ an hundred‭ years‭ old‭,‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭”‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ Isaiah 65:20.

But the change will not just be physical but also of disposition and temperament. During the earthly reign of Christ, men “‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭shall beat‭‭ their swords‭ into plowshares‭, and their spears‭ into pruninghooks‭: nation‭ shall not lift up‭‭ sword‭ against nation‭, neither shall they learn‭‭ war‭ any more,‭”‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ Isaiah 2:4. “‭Come‭‭, behold‭‭ the works‭ of the LORD‭, what desolations‭ he hath made‭‭ in the earth‭.‭ ‭He maketh wars‭ to cease‭‭ unto the end‭ of the earth‭; he breaketh‭‭ the bow‭, and cutteth‭‭ the spear‭ in sunder‭‭; he burneth‭‭ the chariot‭ in the fire‭.‭ ‭Be still‭‭, and know‭‭ that I ‭am‭ God‭: I will be exalted‭‭ among the heathen‭, I will be exalted‭‭ in the earth‭.‭ ‭The LORD‭ of hosts‭ ‭is‭ with us; the God‭ of Jacob‭ ‭is‭ our refuge‭. Selah‭,‭”‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ Psalm 46:8-11.

The present disposition of mankind is manifested in the insincere and hypocritical ‘peace treaties’ nations make with nations. The chief purpose of their creation is for them to be broken! During Christ’s reign men will have no wish to learn war.

That ‘unwarlike’ disposition will be seen amongst the animals, even the most ferocious predators. “‭The wolf‭ also shall dwell‭‭ with the lamb‭, and the leopard‭ shall lie down‭‭ with the kid‭; and the calf‭ and the young lion‭ and the fatling‭ together‭; and a little‭ child‭ shall lead‭‭ them.‭ ‭And the cow‭ and the bear‭ shall feed‭‭; their young ones‭ shall lie down‭‭ together‭: and the lion‭ shall eat‭‭ straw‭ like the ox‭.‭ ‭And the sucking child‭‭ shall play‭‭ on the hole‭ of the asp‭, and the weaned child‭‭ shall put‭‭ his hand‭ on the cockatrice‭’ den‭.‭ ‭They shall not hurt‭‭ nor destroy‭‭ in all my holy‭ mountain‭: for the earth‭ shall be full‭‭ of the knowledge‭ of the LORD‭, as the waters‭ cover‭‭ the sea‭,‭”‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ Isaiah 11:6-9.

4. It will be a day in which the Law of God shall be administered most strictly by the mighty hand of Christ. Consider these verses from the prophecy of Zechariah.

“‭Behold, the day‭ of the LORD‭ cometh‭‭, and thy spoil‭ shall be divided‭‭ in the midst‭ of thee.‭ ‭For I will gather‭‭ all nations‭ against Jerusalem‭ to battle‭; and the city‭ shall be taken‭‭, and the houses‭ rifled‭‭, and the women‭ ravished‭‭‭‭‭; and half‭ of the city‭ shall go forth‭‭ into captivity‭, and the residue‭ of the people‭ shall not be cut off‭‭ from the city‭.‭ ‭Then shall the LORD‭ go forth‭‭, and fight‭‭ against those nations‭, as when‭ he fought‭‭ in the day‭ of battle‭.‭ ‭And his feet‭ shall stand‭‭ in that day‭ upon the mount‭ of Olives‭, which ‭is‭ before‭ Jerusalem‭ on the east‭, and the mount‭ of Olives‭ shall cleave‭‭ in the midst‭ thereof toward the east‭ and toward the west‭, ‭and there shall be‭ a very‭ great‭ valley‭; and half‭ of the mountain‭ shall remove‭‭ toward the north‭, and half‭ of it toward the south‭.‭ ‭And ye shall flee‭‭ ‭to‭ the valley‭ of the mountains‭; for the valley‭ of the mountains‭ shall reach‭‭ unto Azal‭: yea, ye shall flee‭‭, like as ye fled‭‭ from before‭ the earthquake‭ in the days‭ of Uzziah‭ king‭ of Judah‭: and the LORD‭ my God‭ shall come‭‭, ‭and‭ all the saints‭ with thee.‭ . . . ‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬And the LORD‭ shall be king‭ over all the earth‭: in that day‭ shall there be one‭ LORD‭, and his name‭ one‭.‭ . . . ‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬And it shall come to pass, ‭that‭ every one that is left‭‭ of all the nations‭ which came‭‭ against Jerusalem‭ shall even go up‭‭ from‭ year‭ to year‭ to worship‭‭ the King‭, the LORD‭ of hosts‭, and to keep‭‭ the feast‭ of tabernacles‭.‭ ‭And it shall be, ‭that‭ whoso will not come up‭‭ of ‭all‭ the families‭ of the earth‭ unto Jerusalem‭ to worship‭‭ the King‭, the LORD‭ of hosts‭, even upon them shall be no rain‭.‭ ‭And if the family‭ of Egypt‭ go not up‭‭, and come‭‭ not, that ‭have‭ no ‭rain‭; there shall be the plague‭, wherewith the LORD‭ will smite‭‭ the heathen‭ that come not up‭‭ to keep‭‭ the feast‭ of tabernacles‭.‭ ‭This shall be the punishment‭ of Egypt‭, and the punishment‭ of all nations‭ that come not up‭‭ to keep‭‭ the feast‭ of tabernacles‭, ‭”‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ ‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬Zechariah 14:1-5, 9, 16-19.

Remember what we have already learned from Psalm 2.

“‭Yet have I set‭‭ my king‭ upon my holy‭ hill‭ of Zion‭.‭ ‭I will declare‭‭ the decree‭: the LORD‭ hath said‭‭ unto me, Thou ‭art‭ my Son‭; this day‭ have I begotten‭‭ thee.‭ ‭Ask‭‭ of me, and I shall give‭‭ ‭thee‭ the heathen‭ ‭for‭ thine inheritance‭, and the uttermost parts‭ of the earth‭ ‭for‭ thy possession‭.‭ ‭Thou shalt break‭‭ them with a rod‭ of iron‭; thou shalt dash them in pieces‭‭ like a potter’s‭‭ vessel‭.‭ ‭Be wise‭‭ now therefore, O ye kings‭: be instructed‭‭, ye judges‭‭ of the earth‭.‭ ‭Serve‭‭ the LORD‭ with fear‭, and rejoice‭‭ with trembling‭.‭ ‭Kiss‭‭ the Son‭, lest he be angry‭‭, and ye perish‭‭ ‭from‭ the way‭, when his wrath‭ is kindled‭‭ but a little‭. The earth will not be subjected to the agitations and provocations of the one who “as‭ a roaring‭‭ lion‭, walketh about‭‭, seeking‭‭ whom‭ he may devour‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬,” 1 Peter 5:8. During the reign of Christ on this earth the devil will be chained up in the bottomless pit!

“‭And‭ I saw‭‭ an angel‭ come down‭‭ from‭ heaven‭, having‭‭ the key‭ of the bottomless pit‭ and‭ a great‭ chain‭ in‭ his‭ hand‭.‭ ‭And‭ he laid hold on‭‭ the dragon‭, that old‭ serpent‭, which‭ is‭‭ the Devil‭, and‭ Satan‭, and‭ bound‭‭ him‭ a thousand‭ years‭,‭ ‭And‭ cast‭‭ him‭ into‭ the bottomless pit‭, and‭ shut‭‭ him‭ up‭‭, and‭ set a seal‭‭ upon‭ him‭, that‭‭ he should deceive‭‭ the nations‭ no‭ more‭, till‭ the thousand‭ years‭ should be fulfilled‭‭,‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭”‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ Revelation 20:1-3.

Those who foolishly teach that the devil is PRESENTLY in the bottomless pit, have to explain how it is that Peter said he was ‘walking about’ as ‘roaring lion’. They must also inform us of the source of deception so evident amongst the nations, if the devil is indeed under lock and key and unable to deceive.

5. During this period of blessing, the earth will not be delivered from all sin and unbelief. There will, however, be a tremendous work of conversion wrought amongst the Jews and the Gentile nations. Isaiah 2, already quoted, indicates that.

“‭For there shall be‭ a day‭, ‭that‭ the watchmen‭‭ upon the mount‭ Ephraim‭ shall cry‭‭, Arise‭‭ ye, and let us go up‭‭ to Zion‭ unto the LORD‭ our God‭.‭ ‭For thus saith‭‭ the LORD‭; Sing‭‭ with gladness‭ for Jacob‭, and shout‭‭ among the chief‭ of the nations‭: publish‭‭ ye, praise‭‭ ye, and say‭‭, O LORD‭, save‭‭ thy people‭, the remnant‭ of Israel‭.‭ ‭Behold, I will bring‭‭ them from the north‭ country‭, and gather‭‭ them from the coasts‭ of the earth‭, ‭and‭ with them the blind‭ and the lame‭, the woman with child‭ and her that travaileth with child‭‭ together‭: a great‭ company‭ shall return‭‭ thither.‭ ‭They shall come‭‭ with weeping‭, and with supplications‭ will I lead‭‭ them: I will cause them to walk‭‭ by the rivers‭ of waters‭ in a straight‭ way‭, wherein they shall not stumble‭‭: for I am a father‭ to Israel‭, and Ephraim‭ ‭is‭ my firstborn‭.‭ ‭Hear‭‭ the word‭ of the LORD‭, O ye nations‭, and declare‭‭ ‭it‭ in the isles‭ afar off‭, and say‭‭, He that scattered‭‭ Israel‭ will gather‭‭ him, and keep‭‭ him, as a shepherd‭‭ ‭doth‭ his flock‭.‭ ‭For the LORD‭ hath redeemed‭‭ Jacob‭, and ransomed‭‭ him from the hand‭ of ‭him that was‭ stronger‭ than he.‭ ‭Therefore they shall come‭‭ and sing‭‭ in the height‭ of Zion‭, and shall flow together‭‭ to the goodness‭ of the LORD‭, for wheat‭, and for wine‭, and for oil‭, and for the young‭ of the flock‭ and of the herd‭: and their soul‭ shall be as a watered‭ garden‭; and they shall not sorrow‭‭ any more‭‭ at all,‭”‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ Jeremiah 31:6-12.

6. Evidence of the existence of sin still amongst the nations, though under the restraint of Christ, is seen in the reaction of some upon the devil’s release from the pit at the end of the 1000 years. “‭And‭ when‭ the thousand‭ years‭ are expired‭‭, Satan‭ shall be loosed‭‭ out of‭ his‭ prison‭,‭ ‭and‭ shall go out‭‭ to deceive‭‭ the nations‭ which‭ are in‭ the four‭ quarters‭ of the earth‭, Gog‭ and‭ Magog‭, to gather‭‭ them‭ together‭‭ to‭ battle‭: the number‭ of whom‭ ‭is‭ as‭ the sand‭ of the sea‭.‭ ‭And‭ they went up‭‭ on‭ the breadth‭ of the earth‭, and‭ compassed‭‭ the camp‭ of the saints‭ about‭‭, and‭ the beloved‭‭ city‭: and‭ fire‭ came down‭‭ from‭ God‭ out of‭ heaven‭, and‭ devoured‭‭ them‭.‭ ‭And‭ the devil‭ that deceived‭‭ them‭ was cast‭‭ into‭ the lake‭ of fire‭ and‭ brimstone‭, where‭ the beast‭ and‭ the false prophet‭ ‭are‭, and‭ shall be tormented‭‭ day‭ and‭ night‭ for‭ ever‭ and ever‭,‭”‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ Revelation 20:7-10.

We see here that the devil is not ‘delivered’ from his rebellion by his incarceration for 1000 years nor are those who follow him in this final and utter futile and fatal act of rebellion, been affected by their experiences under the gracious and kindly reign of Christ with all the wonderful and blessed benefits they enjoyed. They are those who have rejected mercy and immediately join the devil in his ‘final fling’ and perish with him everlastingly.

It is a dreadful truth that the pit of everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels will also be the abode of those who rejected Christ’s Word and chose rather to follow the devil.

“‭Then‭ shall he say‭‭ also‭ unto them on‭ the left hand‭, Depart‭‭ from‭ me‭, ye cursed‭‭, into‭ everlasting‭ fire‭, prepared‭‭ for the devil‭ and‭ his‭ angels‭:‭ ‭For‭ I was an hungred‭‭, and‭ ye gave‭‭ me‭ no‭ meat‭‭: I was thirsty‭‭, and‭ ye gave‭‭ me‭ no‭ drink‭‭:‭ ‭I was‭‭ a stranger‭, and‭ ye took‭‭ me‭ not‭ in‭‭: naked‭, and‭ ye clothed‭‭ me‭ not‭: sick‭, and‭ in‭ prison‭, and‭ ye visited‭‭ me‭ not‭.‭ ‭Then‭ shall they‭ also‭ answer‭‭ him‭, saying‭‭, Lord‭, when‭ saw we‭‭ thee‭ an hungred‭‭, or‭ athirst‭‭, or‭ a stranger‭, or‭ naked‭, or‭ sick‭, or‭ in‭ prison‭, and‭ did‭‭ not‭ minister‭‭ unto thee‭?‭ ‭Then‭ shall he answer‭‭ them‭, saying‭‭, Verily‭ I say‭‭ unto you‭, Inasmuch‭ as‭ ye did‭‭ ‭it‭ not‭ to one‭ of the least‭ of these‭, ye did‭‭ ‭it‭ not‭ to me‭.‭ ‭And‭ these‭ shall go away‭‭ into‭ everlasting‭ punishment‭: but‭ the righteous‭ into‭ life‭ eternal‭,‭”‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ Matthew 25:41-46.

7. At the end of the 1000 year reign of Christ will come the final judgment of the lost. The unconverted sinners, still in their graves will then be  resurrected and stand at before God at the Great White Throne. After that terrible tribunal ends, the creation of the new heaven and the new earth, the everlasting abode of the redeemed, takes place.

“‭But‭ the rest‭ of the dead‭ lived‭‭ not‭ again‭‭ until‭ the thousand‭ years‭ were finished‭‭. This‭ ‭is‭ the first‭ resurrection‭,‭”‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬ Revelation 20:5.

SAW

I have highlighted the word ‘saw’ for what John was privileged to see, the Lord would have him share with us that we might learn the terrible consequences of sin and rebellion – eternity in the lake of fire. But John also ‘saw a new heaven and a new earth’. That is the glorious eternal abode of those who repent of their sins and have received Christ as their Saviour.

The offer of the gospel is repeated again. “‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭I‭ will give‭‭ unto him that is athirst‭‭ of‭ the fountain‭ of the water‭ of life‭ freely‭.‭ ‭He that overcometh‭‭ shall inherit‭‭ all things‭; and‭ I will be‭‭ his‭ God‭, and‭ he‭ shall be‭‭ my‭ son‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬” as is the warning of the lost eternity awaiting the rejector. “But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.”

Dear reader, be sure that you embrace the offer of mercy for if you reject it, you cannot escape the damnation of the second death!
