“Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth?”
This decision was made just three days after the book was received by the author from the printer.
It is difficult to see how the members of Presbytery who made this decision on Friday evening, could have had a chance to fully examine what the book contained.
I suggest that the contents of it could only have been declared ‘wrong’ on the basis of a denial by those named within it.
That being the procedure adopted it means that we can shut the courts and sack the judges, for all that is needed is a denial from anyone charged with wrongdoing and the case is closed!
Is there not something of the ‘spirit’ that was at work amongst the enemies of the Lord Jesus, and which Nicodemus was moved to object to, at work today?
“Then came the officers to the chief priests and Pharisees; and they said unto them, Why have ye not brought him? The officers answered, Never man spake like this man.
Then answered them the Pharisees, Are ye also deceived? Have any of the rulers or of the Pharisees believed on him? But this people who knoweth not the law are cursed.
Nicodemus saith unto them, (he that came to Jesus by night, being one of them,) Doth our law judge any man, before it hear him, and know what he doeth?” John 7:45-51.
