Letter of support for Rev Darryl Abernethy

This letter of support for Rev Abernethy’s response to Paul Given’s announcement has just been submitted to the ‘Belfast Newsletter’.

Sir,

I write in support of Rev Darryl Abernethy’s response to Education Minister, Paul Given’s, latest announcement, reported in your article — Uniform change for girls ‘attack on the independence of Christian school’.

As a professing Christian, Mr Given should be guided by the ‘only rule of faith and practice’ for the Christian, the Word of God.

Instead, Mr Given tells us he was guided by the opinions of wee lassies!

The actions of Mr Given are all too common amongst professing Christians. The Word of God is set aside when its teaching contradicts the desire of the foolish to be “conformed to this world”, something forbidden of God.

“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God,” Romans 12:1-2.

It is the Word of God that will be heeded in Free Presbyterian Christian schools and not the folly of a man who seeks ‘first’ his re-election!

Regards,
