Hillsborough congregation, under the leadership of its minister, Rev Ian Kenny, organised special gospel meetings to mark the occasion and nothing could be more appropriate since the whole purpose of the existence of the Free Presbyterian witness is to preach and defend the message of Christ.
I was invited to take part in the marking of the anniversary by preaching last night (Wednesday, 23rd October). My invitation resulted from my links with the congregation from its earliest day and particularly because of a mission I conducted back in October 1978.

I cannot really describe the precious thoughts that arose in my heart and mind as I took part in the prayer meeting before the service and heard men pray and speak in thanksgiving of having attended the mission and the prayer meetings that took place each evening back 46 years earlier.
A video was shown during the service of one of those saved in the mission and who became a beloved elder in the congregation, Mr Harold McKibben. It was most moving to hear him tell of how he got saved and how, shortly afterwards, he led his young son to the Saviour. That son made himself known to after the service! He is actively involved in the witness of the congregation.
After the meeting, as I stood at the door and bade farewell to the folk who attended the service, it was indescribably blessed to have some tell me how they had been saved in the mission or how a father or loved now in glory was saved as a result of the mission.
I said in my first remarks that the anniversary service was to a degree what heaven would like be for believers. There will be infinitely more perfect remembering and praising of God for His kindness and mercy and love.
I trust this recording will prove a blessing as you listen.
