The following headline appears in the ‘Belfast Telegraph’. It highlights the blind folly that dominates politics here.
‘My husband is a Sinn Fein member, and I am absolutely not a republican’: Alliance’s newest MLA
From what little I can read of the article for I would not subscribe to that ‘ecumenical’ newspaper in order to avail myself of the full article, the marriage is representative of the folly that dominates Ulster’s political scene.
The following appears on the ‘Belfast Telegraph’ website. “Alliance’s newest MLA laughs at the suggestion that her party wants a beige and bland Northern Ireland that is politically and culturally homogenous.”
“A beige and bland” Northern Ireland is one that is colourless and insipid, in other words utterly without principle or purpose. This MLA may laugh at the suggestion but that is the ‘ecumenical’ thesis that is foundational to her party, the Alliance Party!
The Word of God says: “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?” Amos 3:3. The answer of course, is very clear. They cannot!
For a marriage between a Sinn Feiner and an Alliance Party member to work, either one must compromise on their political views. Their publicly stated views are somewhat opposed. Sinn Fein holds that murder and terror are legitimate means of obtaining political power while the Alliance Party would, on paper, differ with that and claim to be ‘anti-violence’!
How could any country exist and prosper, based upon such an ‘unholy’ union!
In truth, the Alliance MLA is required to subsist within a union with one whose political views and aspirations she claims she is diametrically opposed to. How can that be a good foundation for any union, matrimonial or political?
As I have already noted, such a ‘partnership’ cannot work in the view of God.
Please note these verses which govern very much the company and associations which one submissive to God and His Word, should avoid.
“Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty,” 2 Corinthians 6:14-18.
That which is the very essence of Christian union, is a pattern for the structure of a stable society. Anything else is built on the sand of man’s political folly.
Again, remember the words of Christ.
“And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: and the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it,” Matthew 7:26-27.
We in Ulster, to our grief and sorrow, have witnessed a number of political attempts to build on ‘ecumenical sand’, with its disastrous consequential fall, which did nothing other than advance and strengthen the cause of those espoused to terrorism.
There are those on both sides of the political divide who just do not, cannot learn the lesson of these words.
Sincerely in Christ’s name,
Ivan Foster
