Mr. Givan may hide but he cannot escape

Mr. Paul Givan

The following is a report from the ‘Belfast Telegraph’, 30th November, 2021.

The “Irish News” and the “BBC” carried similar reports in which there were a number of misleading statements made about myself. The “Irish News” reporter, when notified of them, kindly apologised for the errors and for calling me on the Lord’s Day for an interview. I await the BBC’s response!

This report from the ‘Belfast Telegraph’ serves to verify my condemnation of Mr Girvan’s actions in my statement on his attendance at the ecumenical service, published on 25th November and entitled: “Statement regarding Mr. Paul Givan’s attendance at Armagh service”. In it I said that Paul Givan, who was then a member of the Free Presbyterian Church, was wrong in his attendance at the service  The service was led by the leaders of the Roman Catholic church, the Presbyterian and Methodist churches and the Church of Ireland, deniers of God’s Word one and all! Dr. Paul Ferguson - The Death of Moses

On November 28, 2021, Kilskeery FPC had a visit from Dr Paul Ferguson, son of Rev Gordon Ferguson. Dr Ferguson is the minister of Cornerstone Church, Singapore. It is a Presbyterian and Reformed and separated Church.

The Ferguson family have long links with the Free Presbyterian Church of Ulster, dating back to the late 1960s when family members (the family home was some 7 miles away) started attending Lisbellaw FPC.

Dr Ferguson preached two wonderful sermons during his visit to Kilskeery. The morning message was titled ‘The death of Moses - the end of an era’.

It was received with thanksgiving by the flock and was so appropriate in its application to all.

Unknown to any of us at the start of the service was the sad news of the happy home call of Mrs Ivy Hunter, a beloved sister of our senior elder, Mr Jackie Neville.

Mrs Hunter was saved and unexpectedly she passed away in her sleep in the early hours of the Sabbath. She was 89 years old and was saved many years ago.

How appropriate was the message for a grieving brother!

I know that you will enjoy and benefit from what I consider one of the best sermons I have heard for quite some time.

Rev. Ivan Foster

Portstewart: Seawall scripture 'may breach equality rules’

I cannot forbear drawing this matter, which I have just become aware of, to your attention that you might make it a matter of prayer and protest, if you live in the area mentioned.

This BBC headline is most shameful and indicates how ‘politically correctness’ has taken the place of the commands of God as the rule of life and behaviour.

Portstewart: Seawall scripture ‘may breach equality rules’

As you read this report you will see that in truth, God is not allowed to speak in this land! His voice and Word is not to be tolerated. Click to read more…

New facts about the vaccine

Here is a link to a very disturbing article in “Christian Watch”. The introduction to the article states:

“Disturbing data from the Office for National Statistics reveal that deaths from all causes of those vaccinated in the 10-59 age group are running at around twice those among their unvaccinated age-mates. At the same time, unexplained excess deaths are higher than normal. What is going on? Are the vaccines themselves killing previously healthy people? You won’t find this story in the mainstream media.”

Here is the link to that article.

It is but further evidence of God’s hand of judgment upon the land and is NOT evidence of some man-made conspiracy, so fondly promoted by some foolish people who care nothing for what the Bible says on such matters!

Sincerely in our Saviour’s name,

Ivan Foster

Thoughts on the history of professing Christianity, Part 6

We continue with extracts from Benjamin Wills Newton’s book, Prospects of the Ten Kingdoms, the chapter 6 — THOUGHTS ON THE HISTORY OF PROFESSING CHRISTIANITY, AS GIVEN IN THE PARABLES OF MATTHEW XIII.

I would commend a close reading of these extracts for they deal with the very issue of ‘decay within Christendom’ that we see all around.

Here is Part 6, which covers pages 169-174.

In recognising this, they recognised the principle on which Christ had ever acted. The parable speaks of  “treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.” The outward professing body was not “the treasure” for which Christ resigned all in order to buy both it and the spot in which it was hidden-that is, this earth. “The treasure” which He valued were His elect — His own believing people to whom alone the holy name and standing of the Church properly pertained. This was the principle of Christ; and the real strength of the Protestant Reformation was in cleaving to this principle, and practically giving it effect. It was the true power of its earlier testimony; and whenever in later times the distinction between the elect Church and the corrupt professing body has been faithfully recognised, there has seldom been wanting a measure of the Divine blessing.* Click to read more…

A heart-breaking report

little Arthur Labinjo-Hughes

“Nobody loves me” — the heart-rending cry of a little boy!

One of the most tragic reports, of which there are ever so many in these wicked days, appeared in a number of news reports in very recent days. Accompanying the report was a video taken from the babycam in the little one’s bedroom which shows the poor wee child crying and lamenting that ‘no one loves me’.

Harrowing baby-cam footage at trial

When I watched the video and every time I think of it since, my heart has ached and melted for that poor little boy, wee Arthur Labinjo-Hughes, 6.

The video is actually of him but hours before he was murdered. Thomas Hughes, 29, and Emma Tustin, 32, are accused of killing the young boy at their home in Solihull, West Mids.

When I related the story to the children in Kilskeery Christian School yesterday, as an illustration of what happens in a nation that turns its back on the gospel, unsurprisingly there were tears amongst the children!

My heart grieves for the sufferings this child endured. How good it would have been to be able to tell him, ‘Yes there is someone Who loves you. The Lord Jesus loves you.’ Click to read more…

A most persistent plague? Heaven's continuing frown!

Despite the many repeated, boastful pronouncements by government ministers, the ‘demise’ of Covid-19 is NOT about to happen.

Instead, if we carefully read ‘between the lines’ we will find there that there is something very ‘supernatural about this plague!

I believe, with many other Christians, that it is a judgment sent of God upon nations that have openly defied and departed from His truth. As such, no measure taken by men will overcome it!

The Egyptians may have found some measure of comfort by the ‘power’ displayed by the magicians during the first judgment God sent upon Egypt (Exodus 7:22) but that comfort was short lived as God’s judgment intensified.

There has been no addressing or acknowledging of the anger of God toward our land because of its sin. Therefore the plague must inevitably continue. Click to read more…

A case of misquoting the Lord and of misdirecting men

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane [and] vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness,” 2 Timothy 2:15-16.

The phrase ‘rightly dividing the word of truth’ simply means ‘to make straight and smooth, to handle aright, to teach the truth directly and correctly’. Paul refers to a ‘workman’ and it is reasonable to think that when he is directed of the Spirit of God to use a phrase that carries the meaning embodied in the Greek term, that a workman such as a carpenter or stone mason is in the mind of the apostle. My father, who was a carpenter, so often told me when I was but a lad and attempting to help him in some task: ‘measure twice and cut once!’. No one needs to heed such counsel more than one who opens his mouth to pronounce the Word of God and apply it to the hearts and minds of men.

It is easy to misapply God’s Word and thereby misrepresent the meaning of it and thus mislead and misdirect men!

I am saddened to note that such was the outcome of the words spoken by Mr Paul Givan, the First Minister in a speech he made recently in the Stormont Assembly.

A video of part of that speech has been mounted on Facebook and a copy has been circulating. It was sent to me by two friends who were asking my opinion of the words of Mr Givan for they felt that his actions did not ring true.

They are correct. Click to read more…

KICS - Tribute to Mr George McConnell, Kilkeel

Mr. George McConnell

Today, we left aside our usual Bible study with the children in order to pay tribute to a friend of mine and also of Kilskeery Independent Christian School, Mr George McConnell of Kilkeel.

Locally and throughout the Free Church he was known as ‘Mountain Road George’ to distinguish him from a fellow elder Mr ‘Book’ George McConnell.

George McConnell went to be with the Lord in the early hours of the Sabbath past.

He has entered into his eternal rest, having laid aside life’s labours.

Artificial intelligence - the beginning of Antichrist??

“ . . . and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God,” 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4.

The Lord Jesus was most willing to answer the enquiries of the apostles when they asked: “Tell us, when shall these things be? and what [shall be] the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?” However, it is to be noted that He began His response with these solemn words: “Take heed that no man deceive you,” Matthew 24:4.

There are few portions of God’s Word which have been more systematically subjected to attempts to distort and twist them than their teaching on the return of Christ. Men’s notions have been widely embraced by Christians with scant regard to what the Bible says. When discussing the matter with them you will be told, ‘Rev. So and So says this’ or ‘Pastor So and So said that’!

There are but a few who follow the example of the Bereans. “These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so,” Acts 17:11.

Oh how many have neglected to have ‘searched the scriptures’ to test out thereby what men said about the return of Christ. Paul had to say to the church of Thessalonica: “Now we beseech you, brethren, by the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, and [by] our gathering together unto him, that ye be not soon shaken in mind, or be troubled, neither by spirit, nor by word, nor by letter as from us, as that the day of Christ is at hand,” 2 Thessalonians 2:1-2. Even mere years after the beginning of the apostolic age, error was emerging about this wonderful subject.

Well, over the two millennia that have followed, the errors have multiplied despite such warning as that of the Saviour. Click to read more…

The parables of our Lord are addressed chiefly to conscience. If our consciences are perverted we shall either give no heed to the instruction, or else mistake, and probably, reverse the meaning. For example, he who conceives the honour and dignity of this present age to be according to God, and therefore well suited for His Church, will be sure to find in the parable of the “mustard seed” an encouragement to aspire after worldly greatness. He who admires the present condition and influence of professing Christianity, will not be hindered by the mere circumstance of leaven being uniformly used in the Scripture as the type of evil, from interpreting it as the symbol of the diffusiveness and diffusion of good. Parables, if they do not enlighten, blind.* Click to read more…

Canadian floods invoke thoughts of God’s judgment!

We have heard of the horrendous rain storm that hit the eastern area of British Columbia, Canada, a day or so ago.

It took place in an area some 100 miles east of Penticton where the Editor’s son Andy Foster ministers.

He provided some links to newspaper reports of the devastation wrought be the storm.

It would remind us of the judgments of God on Egypt for it is estimated that thousands of farm animals perished in the floods. Here are the links to the news reports and also today’s school study. Simple copy and paste the links into your web browser. Click to read more…

Putting away the evil of the day

Nehemiah rebuilding the walls of Jerusalem

“Ye that put far away the evil day,” Amos 6:3.

Today, I read Amos chapter three as part of my daily reading. I follow the Robert Murray M‘Cheyne’s Bible Reading Calendar, a wonderful aid to a proper reading and systematic of God’s Word which I recommend to all. It can be easily obtained as a ‘down load’ from the internet.

The chapter begins with those familiar words: “Woe to them [that are] at ease in Zion,” Amos 6:1. As I read them I could not help but think that is what afflicts us all today! There is a spirit of ‘ease’ amongst us when the very opposite ought to be the case. I always think of Nehemiah when I think of these words.

“The words of Nehemiah the son of Hachaliah. And it came to pass in the month Chisleu, in the twentieth year, as I was in Shushan the palace, that Hanani, one of my brethren, came, he and [certain] men of Judah; and I asked them concerning the Jews that had escaped, which were left of the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem. And they said unto me, The remnant that are left of the captivity there in the province [are] in great affliction and reproach: the wall of Jerusalem also [is] broken down, and the gates thereof are burned with fire. And it came to pass, when I heard these words, that I sat down and wept, and mourned [certain] days, and fasted, and prayed before the God of heaven,” Nehemiah 1:1-4.

Without imputing any fault to Nehemiah, it is obvious that he had his state of mind and heart altered due to the report by his brother Hanani of the state of the remnant of the Jews still in Jerusalem and the condition of the city. He later explained his crestfallen state to Artaxerxes the king in the following words: “Let the king live for ever: why should not my countenance be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers’ sepulchres, [lieth] waste, and the gates thereof are consumed with fire?” Nehemiah 2:3. The abominable state of national religion

“A wonderful and horrible thing is committed in the land; the prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means;

and my people love [to have it] so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?”

Jeremiah 5:30-31.

Three items of news press upon the Christian the extent of our nation’s rebellion against God.

The first is the report on the BBC news site with the headline: Gay couple receive landmark Church in Wales blessing”.

Fabiano Da Silva Duarte, left, and ‘Father’ Lee Taylor were blessed by the Bishop of St Asaph, Gregory Cameron.

As may be seen in the above picture, one is a ‘cleric’. He is a former ‘bar man’ who is originally from Bolton and is now the ‘vicar’ at St Collen’s Church in Llangollen, North Wales. He and his ‘partner’, Fabiano Da Silva Duarte, have become what is thought to be the first same-sex couple to be officially blessed by the Church in Wales. Click to read more…

“It hasn’t gone away you know!!”

Infamous words were spoken by Gerry Adams of his fellow IRA terrorists in the IRA, back in March 2011, at a Republican rally in Belfast. He said, “They haven’t gone away you know!!”

Some 10 years on, we can rejoice that his words are no longer true, irrespective of how true they were back then! Martin McGuinness is gone; Bobby Storey is gone, and so too is a myriad of other murderers whose passing took place with little publicity.

‘Where have they gone?’ I believe that if they died as they lived then each one went, as did Judas, “‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭‭to‭ his own‭ place‭,‭” Acts 1:25. The Bible teaches that “‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬The fearful‭, and‭ unbelieving‭, and‭ the abominable‭‭, and‭ murderers‭, and‭ whoremongers‭, and‭ sorcerers‭, and‭ idolaters‭, and‭ all‭ liars‭, shall have their‭ part‭ in‭ the lake‭ which‭ burneth‭‭ with fire‭ and‭ brimstone‭: which is‭‭ the second‭ death‭,‭” Revelation 21:8. Such a dreadful truth should make you tremble for the follies of men that caused them to reap such a terrible eternity and humbly bow before God and thank Him for His mercy in delivering us from such wickedness!‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬‬

Having said that, I wish to alter Adams’ statement by replacing two words and apply the amended statement to the Covid-19 virus which abounds in the world today. We can say with alarm: “It hasn’t gone away you know!!”

The statement is true despite the activities of men and manufacturers, propagandists and the ‘human ostriches’ who stick their heads in the sand and refuse to see the obvious. Evidence of that may be seen in the mounting infection rate throughout the United Kingdom and further afield. Click to read more…

ANNIVERSARY OF REV ROBERT BRADFORD AND KENNETH CAMPBELL MURDERS: ‘IRA’S BRUTAL CRIMES CAN’T BE WHITEWASHED’

On the 40th anniversary of the brutal IRA murder of an Ulster Unionist MP while he was carrying out constituency business, his party has said the republican terror organisation’s horrific crimes cannot be whitewashed from history.

The words of Ulster Unionist Party leader Doug Beattie are quoted large in this article and they are fine sounding. However, they prompt this one question:

IF THE IRA IS WHAT HE SAYS THEY ARE, AND WITH THAT WE WOULD AGREE, WHY IS HE AND HIS PARTY EVER SO READY TO CO-OPERATE WITH THE IRA PARTY AT STORMONT AND, IF THEY COULD, ENTER GOVERNMENT AS THEIR PARTNERS?? Click to read more…

But it may be asked, Why should not the “mustard seed” grow ? Does it not in growing, merely fulfil the law of its nature? Why then may not the Church, which like its Master is well suited to rule, and to rule supremely, why should it not rise into greatness here? The answer is, Because of the character of this present age. So long as it pleases God to permit that Satan should continue the “prince of this world;” “the ruler of the darkness of this present age,” so long must it be true that Christ’s kingdom “is not from hence,” and therefore abasement, not “the reigning as kings,” must now be the characteristics of His servants on the earth. It is a question of time. Accordingly, every principle given to the Church in its present standing below, must necessarily check its growth as to all that could promote its exaltation in the earth. The taking up our cross daily and so losing our lives in this world, the spending and being spent for others, the following Jesus of Nazareth, are principles sufficient to deprive the Church, while it adheres to them, of all governmental influence now. Besides which, the active agency of Satan is against those who really cleave to the Truth of Christ. No wonder, therefore, that they should be blighted; no wonder· that in their measure, they · should be like Him, who, although He was indeed a tender plant, worthy of being cherished under every kindly influence, yet flourished not in the earth, but was “as a root out of a dry ground.” No plant that remains in the spot where God’s Truth would keep it, can flourish here. The nourishment that God gives is for the new creation-heavenly, and not of earth. If therefore it do flourish here, it can only be by having been transplanted into other circumstances, where “the prince of this world” can foster and direct its growth, and use it when grown, for his own purposes of evil. Some comments on a horrifying report!

I have just read (11.00 am) the headlines of an article in the “Belfast Telegraph” entitled: ‘David Tweed’s daughters reveal the ‘monster’ he really was after years of sexual abuse at hands of late rugby star father’.

David Tweed was buried out of Hebron Free Presbyterian Church where he was reported to be a member. He was accepted there as a professing Christian.

It must be stated that a sinner, guilty of the most horrific wickedness may receive forgiveness and mercy from the Lord upon repentance and faith in the atoning work of Christ on the cross.

That is made plain in such portions of God’s Word as 2 Chronicles 33:9-14.

“So Manasseh made Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem to err, [and] to do worse than the heathen, whom the LORD had destroyed before the children of Israel. And the LORD spake to Manasseh, and to his people: but they would not hearken. Wherefore the LORD brought upon them the captains of the host of the king of Assyria, which took Manasseh among the thorns, and bound him with fetters, and carried him to Babylon. And when he was in affliction, he besought the LORD his God, and humbled himself greatly before the God of his fathers, And prayed unto him: and he was intreated of him, and heard his supplication, and brought him again to Jerusalem into his kingdom. Then Manasseh knew that the LORD he [was] God. Now after this he built a wall without the city of David, on the west side odidf Gihon, in the valley, even to the entering in at the fish gate, and compassed about Ophel, and raised it up a very great height, and put captains of war in all the fenced cities of Judah.” Click to read more…

Preservation, Purification & Perdition

Greta Thunberg

A comment on the ongoing ‘Climate Change’ circus!

“But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men,” 2 Peter 3:7

As ever, we turn to the Word of God for help and enlightenment and guidance on this vexing topic which is creating hysteria amongst rulers and rabble-rousers today!

It is a case of the ‘blind leading the blind’ and the ditch awaits them both! If ever there was an example of the utter folly of man we have it in this present controversy. Those who have their finger on the ’nuclear button’ are prepared to be led on this issue by the emotion-inflaming cries of a foul-mouthed impudent Swedish eighteen-year-old one, Greta Thunberg, spouting out the results of her being indoctrinated by evolutionary notions taught in her school and by those she deems as heroes, such as David Attenborough!

Tens of thousands of her devoted teenage acolytes and others who ought to know better, have taken to the streets on UK cities and elsewhere in raucous, and sometimes riotous, demonstrations of support for this bumptious youngster. Click to read more…

Admission of Irish Republic "defacto amnesty" given to IRA

former Irish Justice Minister Michael McDowell

Terror victim describes ‘breathtaking admission’ by ex-Irish Justice Minister of defacto amnesty given to IRA

A man whose Garda father was murdered by republicans says an admission by former Irish Justice Minister Michael McDowell that his government gave a de facto amnesty to the IRA was “a breathtaking admission”.

By Philip Bradfield – Belfast Newsletter.

Former Irish Justice Minister Michael McDowell said his government granted a de facto amnesty.

Dubliner Dr Finian Fallon was speaking after Mr McDowell wrote in the Irish Times this week that Sinn Fein needs to take a “reality check” on historic prosecutions of British soldiers in light of the immunity the IRA has been given on both sides of the border. The introduction of false professors greatly, of course, affected the appearance which the Church presented to the world. A field intermingled with tares cannot appear as one in which wheat only grows. The loveliness of its aspect must be gone. Nevertheless, the corporate standing of the Churches was not thereby forfeited. They were still regarded by the Lord as worthy of being represented before Him by their original and proper symbol — “candlesticks of gold.” The steadfastness even of individual saints, although endangered, was not necessarily destroyed by the approximation of evil, however near. Neither was the executive agency of the Churches necessarily perverted ; and· it is by the acts of its executive that the character of every corporate body is determined. Holy discipline might have been exercised. Click to read more…

Christian challenge to the leaders gathered at COP26 in Glasgow

This is a letter from the Public Questions, Religion & Morals Committee of the FREE CHURCH OF SCOTLAND (CONTINUING) to the leaders of the COP26 gathering in Glasgow.

In the letter our brethren challenge the propriety of the invitation given to the Pope to attend the conference  They supply multiple reasons why this invitation  should not have been issued.

It is likely that the Bible-based arguments will be dismissed by those to whom the letter was sent, but we commend the contents of the letter to our readers for the true character of popery needs ever to be borne in mind by God’s people.

A tribute paid to Mr Basil Dane

A TRIBUTE TO MR BASIL DANE by Rev Ivan Foster, his former minister before his retirement

A TRIBUTE TO MR BASIL DANE

At his funeral service in Kilskeery FPC,  30th October, 2021.

“ His lord said unto him, Well done, [thou] good and faithful servant,” Matthew 25:21.

Faithfulness is a virtue we all here in Kilskeery would attribute to our brother Basil, now gone to be with the Lord on Wednesday evening past.

I first met Basil in 1968 when he started attending the meetings in Lisbellaw Free Presbyterian Church where I had been ordained and installed as minister back in April of that year. He had been to the Ulster Hall to hear Dr Paisley and then decided to check out the Lisbellaw meetings. He was not saved at that time but he later testified of the kindness shown to him as a stranger by my uncle, William Foster, who did ‘door duty’ in those days.

He attended for a short time and then in mid-September 1968, he sought the Lord and was saved. There are some of us who can still remember him, his boys and his little blond-haired daughter attending the meetings. Click to read more…

This service, at which Rev Jonathan Creane preached, may be viewed here.

Kilskeery FPC, Lord’s Day evening, 31st October, 2021.

She went to be with the Lord 28th August 2021.

“She hath done what she could,” Mark 14:8.

Very few funeral services may truly be called ‘A Thanksgiving Service’! The Bible clearly says that the majority depart this scene of time having lived a life, which before God, is not one for which to praise the Lord since it was lived in defiance and disobedience of God’s Word.
