Free Presbyterian minister suggests all Troubles victims should be assessed anonymously and compassionately…….Free Presbyterian moderator responds

A prominent Free Presbyterian minister has suggested all victims of the Troubles – including perpetrators – should be assessed anonymously in terms of compensation.

Rev David McIlveen told BBC’s Sunday Sequence programme: “If someone is in need I believe they should be considered in a compassionate way.”

…The moderator of the Free Presbyterian Church has criticised remarks made by a prominent minister who suggested all victims of the Troubles – including perpetrators – should be assessed anonymously in terms of compensation…moderator Rev Gordon Dane, minister in Crossgar, said Rev McIlveen “does not speak for the church on these matters nor is he as spokesman for the church on any matter”. Green Pastures Church and donations to it from ‘Wrightbus’, now in administration!

Patrick Ryan IRA confession: Vatican and church under fire for response to ex-priest’s role in IRA

The Vatican representative in Ireland and church representatives at other levels have been criticised for failing to offer any condemnation on the activities of IRA bomber and former priest Patrick Ryan.

BBC Spotlight this week broadcast an interview with Mr Ryan during which he confessed to working for the IRA while a parish priest in Ireland – and being involved in a string of high-profile bomb attacks in England.

He reportedly left the in 1973 to work full time for the IRA. Read more

IRA Brighton bomb: Patrick Ryan admits link to 1984 attack

The following article was mounted on the BBC/Northern Ireland website on September 24th, 2019.

It is well worth a read, remembering the protection given this man by the Dublin and Vatican authorities!!!! He is called a ‘former priest’ in this article but he was never ‘defrocked’ or removed from the priesthood. He just rsigned from his monkish order rather than take a posting in England where he would have been arrested!!

For more information on Ryan see this Wikipedia article.

A baby born in wicked day!

Our Foster family circle has been enlarged of late! We had wee Phebe, a first great granddaughter who arrived on April 13th, born to Lynn and Ivan Jr. and joining her little brothers, Isaac and Joel. Then on September 19th, little Katie Ann was born to Debbie and Stephen, bringing their precious ‘brood’ to five. Katie is our latest grandchild, number 21!

We are thankful to the Lord for such blessings as these little ones. “Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD,” Psalm 127:3.

These arrivals reminded me of the anxious and concerned response of my mother when in the 60s and 70s and 80s, we informed her of the prospect of a new arrival in our family. “Oh,” she would lament. “Such an evil world for a little one to be born into!”

Of course back then there was the ongoing daily threat of terrorism in the streets and lanes of Ulster as well as the growing apostasy in the religious realm. Great-Great-Granny Foster (as she would be now) had reasons to be concerned. What would she not think of the world now into which children are born with its ever-accelerating plunge into wickedness, almost unknown some 50 years ago? Read more

Eilis O’Hanlon: Either Gerry Adams was in the IRA or he wasn’t … it shouldn’t be reduced to a question of tribal loyalty

By Eilis O’Hanlon, September 19th, 2019 published in the Belfast Telegraph

According to the news, Linda Dillon is Sinn Fein’s “legacy spokesperson”. We’re just going to have to take the party’s word for it. Most people probably couldn’t pick the Coalisland woman out of a line-up of one, so low is her profile; and perhaps she can’t be blamed for that.

Dillon has only been MLA for Mid Ulster since the May 2016 election and Stormont hasn’t been sitting for most of that time. It can’t have helped her become a household name in Northern Ireland. Read more….

DUP MP supporting local pubs campaign

(Belfast Newsletter, 10th September 2019)

The chancellor should consider cutting beer tax to help boost pubs which are “at the heart of communities,” in constituencies such as Strangford, the DUP’s Jim Shannon has said.

Mr Shannon said he backs the UK-wide ‘Long Live the Local’ campaign as the brewing industry and pubs support 651 jobs, as well as contributing £14.8 million each year, to the economy of the area…..

Having just read this article with sadness of heart at this latest evidence of the spirit of backsliding and worldliness, rampant in the professing Christian Church here in Ulster, I wish to share it with you and underscore how a professing Christian in the DUP has further abandoned the teaching of the Word of God!

He is DUP MP for Strangford, Jim Shannon. Read more

Touch not the unclean thing.

Question: “May Christians who are affiliated to an organisation which endorses the wickedness of sodomy exonerate themselves by claiming that they are opposed to that organisation’s endorsement of sodomy?”

Answer: “ . . . touch not the unclean thing,” 2 Corinthians 6:17.

To one who was engaged in the 1960s and 1970s in a battle with evangelicals within the Presbyterian, Church of Ireland and Methodist denominations here in Ulster on this very question, only then the organisation under scrutiny was not the Democratic Unionist Party but the World Council of Churches, it is amazing to find myself having to repeat and spell out the old arguments for separation to members of the Free Presbyterian Church!

The case against the DUP is that it has endorsed and embraced wickedness and that of a kind that the WCC in its worst days back some 50 years ago, did not accept. Read more

The Ulster Protestant and the Williamite wars in Ireland

Chapter 5: Enniskillen and the battling rector of Kilskeery

I have to say immediately that the resistance to James II that centred in Enniskillen was by no means mounted by Enniskillen men only. The Inniskilleners (the old name for Enniskillen) were made up of Protestant men from the counties Sligo, Mayo, Leitrim, Roscommon, Cavan, Monaghan, Donegal, West Tyrone and Fermanagh. The Protestant community combined into a disciplined and regimented force which not merely withstood the best of James’ military leaders but repeatedly defeated them most decidedly. The actions of the “Inniskilleners” were sparked off, as was all Protestant resistance, by the actions of Lying Dick Talbot, the Earl of Tyrconnel, James II’s Viceroy in Ireland. Tyrconnel had turned 6,200 Protestants out of the army and had thrust Roman Catholics into positions of public trust, most of whom were totally unfitted for the positions they occupied. The French Ambassador, Avaux, said of Tyrconnel’s actions in Ireland, “…the man who served the King of France as Tyrconnel served James II … would have lost his head…”. Tyrconnel’s bigoted actions raised the ire of the Protestant people and ultimately cost James II his throne. Read more

Reading the time on the face of God’s clock, Pt4. Gross immorality

Immorality was ever a feature of the conduct of mankind. As we have seen in our second study, violence showed itself early in man’s history in the murder of Abel by his brother. “And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him,” Genesis 4:8.

In like fashion, immorality, the abandonment of the holy Law of God and the adopting of the lustful impulses of man’s corrupt and depraved flesh as the rule to live by, was swiftly adopted.

“And Lamech took unto him two wives: the name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah,” Genesis 4:19. As John Gill, in his commentary, says: “He was the first we read of that introduced polygamy, contrary to the first institution of marriage, whereby only one man and one woman were to be joined together, and become one flesh, Genesis 2:24. This evil practice, though it began in the race of wicked Cain, was in later ages followed by some among the people of God, which was connived at because of the hardness of their hearts; otherwise it was not so from the beginning.” Read more

The Ulster Protestant and the Williamite wars in Ireland

Chapter 4: The seige of Derry

Great weights may pivot on small points. Great events in history often turn on small and insignificant events. The finding of the Comber Letter in December 1688, addressed to the Earl of Mount-Alexander, in which was contained a warning, from an apparently ill-educated person, of a massacre of Protestants planned for Lord’s Day 9th December, was just such an insignificant event. Whether this letter warned of a genuine plot to slaughter Protestants or whether it was a fraud or whether the actions the letter sparked off forced a cancellation of the massacre will never be known. In the end, there was no general slaughter of Protestants but actions were precipitated which saved Ireland from James II and frustrated his plans to Romanise the United Kingdom. Read more

How do we know that the return of Christ is truly near?

An interesting question was sent to me recently as a result of my correspondent hearing me comment on the nearness of the return of Christ in a sermon, “Guidance for the last days”, which I preached in Kilskeery FPC on August 18th, a recording of which can be heard here. I referred to the signs that we see manifesting themselves all around us.

Here is the question asked.

“Is it not however the case that many down through the ages have held that same view believing their time to be the end of the age (now exposed as being an incorrect reading of world events then)?”

A very good and proper question which I welcome for it makes me gather together my thoughts and muster the reasons why I think as I do!! Read more…

Reading the time on the face of God’s clock, Pt3: Drug taking

As I take up the subject of that which is yet another feature of the last days breaking forth before our eyes, may I commend a sermon preached upon the subject by Rev Andy Foster, minister of Penticton Free Presbyterian Church in Canada. I commend it to all our readers. Click here to listen.

1. The reference to drugs and their widespread use in the last days may be seen in Revelation 9:21 and 18:23.
“Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.”
“And the light of a candle shall shine no more at all in thee; and the voice of the bridegroom and of the bride shall be heard no more at all in thee: for thy merchants were the great men of the earth; for by thy sorceries were all nations deceived.”

The word ‘sorceries’ in these two verses is a translation of the Greek word: ‘pharmakeia’. It is also translated as ‘witchcraft’ in Galatians 5:20. There it is listed as one of the works (employment, activities) of the flesh. Read more

Rector to walk in Pride parade

A report in the “Belfast Newsletter” of August 31st, highlights the utter apostasy of the Church of Ireland, the Episcopalian sister organisation of the Church of England. Upon seeing the report I could not refrain from writing this brief  expostulation.

That there should be in the ranks of this so-called Protestant denomination such a reprobate as this cleric, Rev Andrew Rawding, and that he is permitted to utter such wicked slanders and to retain his position and to propagate his blasphemy, is evidence enough of the outright departure from the teaching of the Bible that the Church of Ireland professes to believe and stand for!

He stupidly claims that “the very serious mental health implications including self harm and suicide stem from how the church has mistreated LGBTQI+ people.”

There is a simple truth set forth in the Bible and endorsed manifestly in nature, which states: “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting, Galatians 6:7-8. Read more

The Ulster Protestant and the Williamite wars in Ireland, Pt3 – Ulster: The battleground for a Protestant kingdom

Whatever concerns Protestants leaders had for future wellbeing of the nation and the Protestant faith under Charles II, these were greatly heightened under James II. While his brother Charles was still alive, attempts had been made to remove James from the ling’s councils because he was an openly avowed Roman Catholic. In 1678 Charles persuaded his brother to cease attending privy council meetings. He also assured the House of Commons and the House of Lords that he was ready to join with them in all the ways and means that might establish a firm security for the Protestant religion. (Lord’s Journals XIII. 345.) It was at this time that an act was passed requiring an oath of those who sat in the two Houses of Parliament which effectively excluded Romanists from sitting in either house until 1829. Agitation over the succession of James to the throne continued until the death of Charles. Read more…

The Williamite wars and the Ulster Protestant, Pt2

The unchanging tricks of Popery

The Lord Jesus Christ makes it clear that Satan is a creature of habit. He is bound by his own depravity. He is given over to opposing a God who never changes. God pursues His eternal purpose without interruption or disturbance. Satan’s malignant nature binds him and enslaves him to doing all he can to oppose God. It is this inflexible implacability we all have observed in Romanism, one of Satan’s chief agencies. It may, for a season, submerge its objectives and ambitions, waiting for a more favourable environment in which to pursue its goals, but it never abandons them.

Rome’s blueprint

History, therefore, presents us with a blueprint of Rome’s present and future strategy by revealing her past activities. No period of history is more fruitful for this purpose than that of the 17th century. Tonight, in the context of the conflict in Ireland in the period leading up to the battle of the Boyne, we shall consider ‘The unchanging tricks of popery.’ Read more

Reading the time on the face of God’s clock Part 2: Violence

The Lord Jesus tells us that “as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be. For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be,” Matthew 24:37-39.

The indifference to the spiritual and moral atmosphere that prevailed back in the days of Noah is depicted in the words of the Saviour. Such complacency and apathy were most strange, given the general moral climate of that age. It is a complacency mirrored by today’s laxity regarding the general decline of society’s morals.

Here is what we are told of those days in Genesis chapter 6. “And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. . . . . . The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence,” verses 5 and 11.

The word ‘violence’ in verse 11 is a word the Lord uses to describe the state of mankind back in those days just prior to the flood. Dr Usher’s Chronology, which is highly regarded and respected, dates this period some 1700 years after the creation.
That of which it is first recorded “and God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good,” Genesis 1:31, is now “corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence,” Genesis 6:11.
It does not take long for sin to destroy God’s handiwork and render it perfectly soiled and ruined! It is to be noted that the Lord says in Genesis 6:11 that “the earth also was corrupt before God.” When the order that God has ordained is ‘marred’, ’spoiled’ and ‘corrupted’ then violence bursts forth. Read more

Letter from Rev. Foster to Editor of Belfast Newsletter

Sir,

If the small emblem of the Parachute Regiment on the sleeves of a few band members is deemed extremely offensive to nationalists, worthy of the heavy-handed intervention of the police and the whimpering overtures of some loyalist leaders in an attempt to placate nationalist complainers, just what does the constant parading of convicted IRA murderers glorying in their terrorist deeds, on our television news broadcasts amount to in the eyes and ears of Ulster’s loyalist community??

The bias of our news media, especially the BBC and the open sympathy of the Civil Service for all things anti-British have pervaded increasingly the atmosphere of Ulster with virtually no response from our Unionist leadership, certainly not the response that this iniquitous campaign demands!

Then what can we expect from a Unionism that has settled for power-sharing with terrorists and adopted the perverted principles of the sodomite community?

God save Ulster from Popery and Perversion!!

Rev Ivan Foster (Retired Free Presbyterian Minister)

Guidance for the last days!

A message preached by Rev Ivan Foster on Jeremiah chapter 38 in Kilskeery Free Presbyterian Church at the 44th Annual Day of Prayer, August 18th, 2019.

It is 45 years ago on August 17th, 1974, that the hall here was opened for the proclamation of the Gospel. It had been built by the men and indeed, the womenfolk, who formed the beginnings of the witness here. The following year, there began the custom of holding this season of prayer both as a time of thanksgiving and also of intercession for loved ones and the land!
Times have changed over the 45 years, though we are seeing the increasing apostasy that has now almost totally engulfed the United Kingdom.
In the midst of such departure and defiance of God, we look for a word from the Lord. Read moreor use the player below:

The Ulster Protestant and the Williamite wars in Ireland

Back in 1990, I published a series of messages I had preached in Carrickfergus Free Presbyterian Church. I believe it would be profitable to reprint these messages.

There is an ominous parallel in the ‘de-protestantising’ of Ireland under James II with that which has been happening in Ulster over the last 30 years. Romanists and republicans have come to prominence, through British Government duplicity and also compromising and self-serving so-called Protestants! Evidence of this may be seen in the Civil Service, where recently a senior civil servant was paid a large amount of money as compensation for the distress he has suffered having to walk under a portrait of the Queen! Read more

Helter-skelter in Norwich Cathedral

When I read the following article on the BBC News site this morning, I could not but think that a “Helter-Skelter” within a modern anti-Bible church building is a wonderfully apt illustration of the religion propagated there!!

Norwich Cathedral: Helter-skelter offers new experience

A full-size helter-skelter has been constructed inside a cathedral to give visitors a unique view of the building.

The 16.7m (55ft) vintage fairground ride took four people two days to build in the nave of Norwich Cathedral.

For the first time it allows people to stand close to its medieval roof bosses, believed to be the largest display of their kind in the world.

The Very Reverend Jane Hedges, Dean of Norwich Cathedral, said the installation was “certainly not a gimmick”.

It will be at the cathedral until 18 August.

The term “Helter-Skelter” is often used to describe ‘confusion’. Such indeed is the state of religion in the world today! It is as Jeremiah said of his land some 2600 years ago. Read more

Reading the time on the face of God’s clock! – Part 1: Rebellion against God

As we may look abroad and see the evidences of the passage of the weeks and months of the year in the realm of nature, in the evidence of the physical decline of the human body, not to mention the movement of the hands on our clocks and watches, even so may we look around and note the indications of the passage of time in the lifespan of this world as it is revealed to us in the Bible.

Christian, the Bible is a map by which we find our way to heaven but more than that, it also marks the present position of mankind on the way to the end of the purpose God has for this earth!

Satellite Navigation is not new! Just as I can insert a destination into my Sat Nav and then watch my progress upon its screen as I journey toward my destination, even so I can observe exactly the present position of humanity on its journey toward eternity!

In keeping with my title, the Bible will tell us of the passage of time and the approach of the final hour for this world.

There are given to us in the Bible certain features that will mark the end of this age. These features may be seen in times past, but never to the degree of union and fusion as they will be seen in the last days! Read more

Claudy IRA attack anniversary: Catholic Church, PSNI and NIO silence over ‘new’ files

One of the Claudy bombing families says it is “disappointing but not unexpected” that the Catholic Church, PSNI and Northern Ireland Office have declined to say why they are withholding some 20 boxes of evidence in relation to the atrocity.

The IRA murdered nine civilians with three car bombs in the village just outside Londonderry on July 31, 1972. In 2010 the Police Ombudsman made explosive headlines when it revealed correspondence showing that the RUC, Northern Ireland Office (NIO) and the Catholic Church covered-up the suspected role of South Derry IRA commander and Catholic priest, Fr James Chesney, in the atrocity.

James Miller, whose grandfather David was murdered in the attack, was one of those who attended a simple remembrance ceremony at the village memorial on Wednesday.

“It was really a poignant and sombre event but at the same time it was good to come together with the other families again,” he said. Read more

Belfast defamed!!

How grieving to the true Christian are the God-defying and odious antics taking place in and around the city hall of Northern Ireland’s capital today as the streets will be desecrated by the blatant displays of immorality and depravity is the “Sodomite Pride Parade”!

IT IS NOTHING SHORT OF MADNESS!!

“Babylon hath been a golden cup in the LORD’S hand, that made all the earth drunken: the nations have drunken of her wine; therefore the nations are mad,” Isaiah 51:7.

The word ‘mad’ at the end of our text refers to a ‘boastful foolishness’. It is akin to the workings of alcohol on the mind of the drunkard. As the old saying goes: “When the drink is in, the wit is out!”

There is an intoxication sweeping over the world today and manifesting itself in the acceptance of and engaging in that which in former times was considered utterly shameful and obnoxious.

I am referring to the evil plague of ‘sodomy’ and its allied wickednesses. Read more

A timely exposure of the DUP’s hypocrisy!

“For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known,” Luke 12:22.

I think that politicians would especially need to take this to heart and observe its truth.

I am publishing an article written by Mr Sam McBride, the political analyst of the “Belfast News Letter”. It appeared in the edition of Saturday 13th July this year and is reproduced at the end of this article.

The general information of the article is good but one section in his article is what I wish to highlight, and I have highlighted it in bold red type in the body of the article, but I want to further highlight it by quoting here part of what I wish readers to particularly note!

“On Tuesday morning, one experienced DUP figure did not expect Mr McGinn’s amendment to be called but acknowledged that if it was accepted then it was likely to pass. A liberal DUP member, speaking as the debate was ongoing, said of the same-sex marriage amendment: “I think it will go through. I hope it does. I also believe quietly that 50% of DUP members feel the same.”

But while there has been a growing acceptance within the DUP that same-sex marriage was likely to become law, many party members feel more strongly about abortion and did not expect such radical change to pass.” Read more

The Matter of Homosexuality, Lesbianism, Same-Sex Marriages etc.

This article, by Mr Bob Burton, was passed to me by a friend in Australia, brother Paul Owens, to whom it had been sent that he might consider it and inform the writer of his opinion.

Having read the article, I most certainly agree with the writer’s views of the dreadful sin of sodomy and much admire the manner in which he has set forth the teaching of God’s Word on the subject.

I do not personally know Mr Burton but on the basis of what he states here in this article, I believe him to be one who holds fast to God’s Law.

For that reason I am having the article mounted on ‘The Burning Bush’ that it might be shared to the spiritual profit of our many readers. Read more

Philip McGarry: Contrasting words of Pam Morrison and Gerry Adams reflect the better angels of our nature or the worst of our past

Last week saw two very significant and contrasting interpretations of our recent history in Northern Ireland.

The first was the moving testimony of Pam Morrison, speaking publicly for the first time about her three brothers who were separately hunted down and murdered by the IRA in rural Fermanagh in the 1980s.

The second was the funeral of Kevin Mc Kenna (pictured), allegedly a former IRA leader. Read more

It is the duty of the servant of God to warn of coming judgement.

“But if the watchman see the sword come, and blow not the trumpet, and the people be not warned; if the sword come, and take any person from among them, he is taken away in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at the watchman’s hand. So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me. When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand,” Ezekiel 33:6-8.

A watchman must be in contact and communion with the Lord and ‘hearing’ His Word!
The warning he must give is strong and stern! “When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die.” Consequently it is not a welcome message and the messenger will suffer reproach.

But better that than finding the blood of the unwarned wicked required by the Lord at your hand! Read more

Ancient city of Babylon designated Unesco World Heritage Site

There are those who believe that the prophecy of Jeremiah (and other similar prophecies) given in Jeremiah 13:19-22, were fulfilled in the days of Daniel.

Here is what Jeremiah said of the fate of Babylon at the hands of the Lord in judgment.
“And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees’ excellency, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah. It shall never be inhabited, neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation: neither shall the Arabian pitch tent there; neither shall the shepherds make their fold there. But wild beasts of the desert shall lie there; and their houses shall be full of doleful creatures; and owls shall dwell there, and satyrs shall dance there. And the wild beasts of the islands shall cry in their desolate houses, and dragons in their pleasant palaces: and her time is near to come, and her days shall not be prolonged.” Read more

Israel Folau under attack for his witness against sodomite perversions!

The following information about Mr Israel Folau is taken from the Wikipedia site.

“Israel Folau (Tongan: Isileli Folau; born 3 April 1989) is an Australian professional rugby union player who most recently played for the New South Wales Waratahs in Super Rugby. He has previously played professional rugby league and Australian rules football. In 2019, he became the record holder for most tries scored in Super Rugby history.
Folau’s statements regarding marriage, homosexuality and transgender issues brought him into conflict with the administrators of Rugby Australia (RA), and in 2019 they terminated his contract. Folau has appealed the termination to the Fair Work Commission.

Raised a Mormon, Folau converted to the Assemblies of God Pentecostal church as an adult. In 2017, he dissented from Rugby Australia’s announcement of support for the ‘Yes’ case in the national plebiscite on same-sex marriage, and later expressed the Pentecostal view that gay people should repent or face Hell, earning a rebuke from Rugby Australia. Signed soon after by RA to a four-year contract, Folau shared a similar biblical quote before Easter 2019. Rugby Australia alleged that this constituted a “high level” breach of its “inclusiveness” commitment and announced an intention to sack him. The matter was considered in a disciplinary hearing and his contract with Rugby Australia was terminated.” Read more…

The withdrawal of common grace

For some time I have been pondering this subject. I see the undeniable increase in lawlessness and sin amongst the nations as proof that in judgment God is withdrawing His restraint upon wicked men.

So it will continue until the end of this age, which surely draws very near!

“And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie: that they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness,” 2 Thessalonians 2:11-12.

“But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them,” 2 Timothy 3:13-14.

These two passages tell us clearly the trends we will see developing in the very end of this age. Read more

Why antisemitism will continue until the end of this age

“But it shall come to pass, if thou wilt not hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe to do all his commandments and his statutes which I command thee this day; that all these curses shall come upon thee, and overtake thee,” Deuteronomy 28:15.

On June 22nd and 23rd I read chapters 27 and 28 of Deuteronomy each year as I follow the Robert Murray McCheyne Bible Reading Calendar in my daily readings.

As I read these chapters a few days ago, I took note of the terrible judgments threatened against Israel all those ages ago, some 3500 years ago.

There is a price to pay for disobeying God and trampling underfoot His mercies and kindnesses! There is a lesson in that for every sinner and for every child of God and every assembly of God’s people. But I will return to that a little later.

First of all I want to address the subject of my title: Why antisemitism will continue until the end of this age.

Part of the judgment threatened here upon Israel, should they cast aside God and His Law is that of a spirit of bitter enmity amongst the nations of the earth toward Israel. Read more

‘The Adventures of a Bible.’

Jonathan Creane, minister of Convoy Free Presbyterian Church and minister in charge of Kilskeery Free Presbyterian Church, told a wonderful story to illustrate the power of God’s precious Word during his message that Sabbath morning.Amongst the belongings of an elderly Christian aunt of his wife, who had passed away, a tract was found in her old Bible which was entitled: “The Adventures of a Bible.” It was the substance of that tract that Rev Creane repeated that day in Kilskeery.

It was a most moving story! The recording of his telling of the story was heard by a friend in the USA to whom I send articles ands recordings. He was so blessed by it he played the recording in his church.

I related the story to another friend, a minister who called by on a recent Saturday. He immediately recognised the story and said that he had a copy of the tract. He sent me a digital copy of it and I reproduce it here.

I have not been able to discover who Dr J H Townsend is, but I believe that because the lady, in whose Bible the copy of the tract used by  Rev Creane was found, was a member of a Brethren Assembly, the meeting in Dublin which is at the heart of this story was a Brethren meeting and the company which published the tract was a well-known Brethren publisher, it is likely that Dr Townsend was a Brethren preacher.

I would value any information on the gentleman’s identity that any of you may know.

Here is the story which touched my heart most deeply as I listened to the wonderful story of the power of God’s Word and the merciful grace which was manifested to those featured in this story.
