In this month’s edition…

So how long will it be before we invite the IS jihadis to a white-tie dinner?

Patrick Magee (pictured in Belfast last year) is free and apparently  living a happy and contented life while his victims lie in their graves. While we rage and fret about the terrorist outrages of today, how quickly we forget the horrors of the recent past. Read more

Proposed Changes to Abortion Law in Northern Ireland

David_FordThe case being made for changes to the law regarding abortion in Northern Ireland that David Ford, Justice Minister in the Stormont power-sharing government and leader of the Alliance Party is pushing, is not new.

The Justice Department is asking for the views of the public on whether abortion should be allowed for women carrying children which would die due to defects anyway, and also it is being asked whether abortions should be available to those who conceived due to incest or rape.

It should be remembered that the decision to abort a baby which is alleged to be suffering from defects, from which it will die after its birth, rests upon the views of doctors, based upon their interpreting of medical evidence supplied by scans etc.

That amounts to the doctors supplanting the role of God! Read more

Godless Federations

(A message preached at the Sovereign Grace Advent Testimony evening meeting held in New Life Presbyterian Church hall (kindly granted) in West Kilburn, London, on Friday 26th September, 2014, by Rev Ivan Foster)

“Keep not thou silence, O God: hold not thy peace, and be not still, O God. For, lo, thine enemies make a tumult: and they that hate thee have lifted up the head. They have taken crafty counsel against thy people, and consulted against thy hidden ones. They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance. For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee: the tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarenes; Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre; Assur also is joined with them: they have holpen the children of Lot. Selah,” Psalm 83:1-8.

The anti-Israel sentiments expressed here in this psalm have long been desired and if anything are stronger today than ever before. How precise and detailed is the information here given on this federation of nations. Prophecy is history written before the event. This amalgam of haters of Israel will indeed come together in their efforts to “cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance” just prior to our Saviour’s return. Read more

The Apostasy

A message preached at the Sovereign Grace Advent Testimony afternoon meeting held in New Life Presbyterian Church hall (kindly granted) in West Kilburn, London, on Friday 26th September, 2014, by Rev Ivan Foster.

“Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition; Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God,” 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4. Read more

Reasons why the binding of Satan in Revelation 20:1-4 cannot refer to his defeat at Calvary

I understand that it is generally believed among A-millennialists that the binding of Satan, in Revelation 20, is a reference to what happened to him at Calvary.
I have heard that stated myself in an exposition of these verses.
Now I find it hard to believe that anyone can be satisfied with such an explanation of this passage of God’s Holy Word. Such an interpretation leaves so many unexplained verses and generates so many contradictions and incredible implications that it cannot be seriously regarded as a proper exegesis of this passage. Read more

A Sinister Development for Home Educators in Northern Ireland

by Rev. Brian McClung

There is presently a consultation running in all five Education & Library Boards in Northern Ireland regarding the issue of Home Education. Presently it is any parent’s legal right to educate their child[ren] outside the state system of education. This legal right permits independent schools to exist, such the Free Presbyterian schools, or a parent may desire to educate their child[ren] at home. Read more(link to article on The sound of an alarm)

Beginning of Emmaus Baptist Assembly of Oradea

by Florin Moţiu

At the end of 2003, a small number of young people started a Bible study group, meeting once a month, and, after a while, twice a month. All of us were Arminian in theology, most of us members in the Baptist Union, which is Arminian in creed. As the years passed, we became more and more interested in the Doctrines of Grace. We studied the five points of Calvinism, the theology of the Puritans, the lives of Luther, Calvin, Edwards, Spurgeon. Read more

Offending Without Apologising.

This article is prompted by the spectacle of First Minister, Peter Robinson and then Pastor James McConnell bowing to the media-based campaign that followed in the wake of Pastor McConnell’s widely publicised comments on the subject of the wickedness and unbiblical nature of Islam and Peter Robinson’s support of him.

“Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying?
But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up. Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind.
And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch,” Matthew 15:12-14.
Christians should not seek to offend gratuitously any with their declarations of the truth of God. We are exhorted to engage in “speaking the truth in love,” Ephesians 4:15. Read more

Headcovering in Public Worship

Fashions change and tastes differ. Cultural variations abound among Christians of differing nationalities. The New Testament wisely makes allowance for such things and goes no further in matters of dress and appearance than to set down the principles of modesty (1 Tim. 2:9) and association-e.g., that we should be careful not to adopt any appearance that identifies us with grossly wicked people to whom a particular style or fashion is virtually a badge.

Paul devotes half a chapter to the subject of headcovering (1 Cor. 11:1-16). He gives no indication that he is establishing a rule merely for the local situation in Corinth.

Enoch – An illustration of the importance of watching for the return of Christ as an incentive to holiness.

The most remarkable thing recorded in the Bible about Enoch, a man of the seventh generation from Adam and whose life span would have been overlapped by that of Adam by some 308 years, according to calculations based upon figures given in Genesis 5, was his avoidance of death. Genesis 5:24 says, “And Enoch walked with God: and he was not; for God took him.” This truth is further stated in Hebrews 11:5. “By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God.” Read more

Jeremiah 30 – The future fulfilment of its prophetic teachings

By Rev Ivan Foster

I recently was at a meeting in which Dr John Douglas was preaching the first message in a series entitled: “The Land and the Book – God’s future dealings with Israel.” He introduced his subject by saying that Jeremiah chapters 30-33 are a mini “Apocalypse”. The parallel is there for all to see! The opening words of Jeremiah 30:1 remind us very much of Revelation 1:1. Just look at the opening verses of both portions and you will see a link. Read more

The Land and the Book: God’s future dealings with Israel

  • God’s covenant with Israel, Jeremiah 31
  • The title deeds of the land, Jeremiah 32
  • The message in the old bones and two sticks, Ezekiel 37

The two great cities of Scripture

By Rev Ivan Foster

This is a message given at one of the monthly meetings of The Sovereign Grace Advent Testimony in London, 26th January 1992.

I wish to state very clearly that I believe God has an eternal purpose. Of course, such a doctrine is not new amongst those who support the Sovereign Grace Advent Testimony. The Westminster Confession of Faith states in chapter 3, paragraph 1, “God from all eternity did by the most wise and holy counsel of His Own will freely and unchangeably ordain whatsoever comes to pass.” The decree of God embraces all things that shall ever come to pass. Nothing comes as a surprise to God. Nothing ever happens that is outside His decreed will. Read more
