Jeremiah 30 – The future fulfilment of its prophetic teachings

By Rev Ivan Foster

I recently was at a meeting in which Dr John Douglas was preaching the first message in a series entitled: “The Land and the Book – God’s future dealings with Israel.” He introduced his subject by saying that Jeremiah chapters 30-33 are a mini “Apocalypse”. The parallel is there for all to see! The opening words of Jeremiah 30:1 remind us very much of Revelation 1:1. Just look at the opening verses of both portions and you will see a link. Read more

Not a word of regret . . . not a word of apology . . . . but every attempt to justify, explain away and glorify  . . . the killers

The following is a speech delivered by TUV leader Jim Allister during yesterday’s (5th November, 2013) debate in Stormont’s Parlimentary Buildings, Belfast, on terrorism in the Castlederg area. It highlights essential points regarding the IRA terrorist campaign, the perpetrators of which are hailed as heroes by Martin McGuinness and his fellow Sinn Fein leaders. Read more

The two great cities of Scripture

By Rev Ivan Foster

This is a message given at one of the monthly meetings of The Sovereign Grace Advent Testimony in London, 26th January 1992.

I wish to state very clearly that I believe God has an eternal purpose. Of course, such a doctrine is not new amongst those who support the Sovereign Grace Advent Testimony. The Westminster Confession of Faith states in chapter 3, paragraph 1, “God from all eternity did by the most wise and holy counsel of His Own will freely and unchangeably ordain whatsoever comes to pass.” The decree of God embraces all things that shall ever come to pass. Nothing comes as a surprise to God. Nothing ever happens that is outside His decreed will. Read more

The New Golden Boys in the Military

written by Lt. Colonel John Lewis Cook, USA (ret.)

Just when you think the Obama administration cannot possibly engage in any more stupid, embarrassing episodes, you suddenly discover that you are wrong. This administration’s capacity for insanity appears to be limitless. The latest example of this occurred on Tuesday when the Pentagon hosted something called the Second Annual Gay Appreciation Day. Pope Francis shows his true colours

By Richard Bennet.

Pope Francis’s performances and writings give a picture of a man that is two-faced. To build a public image for himself, Bergoglio, once elected, chose the name Pope Francis in honor of St Francis of Assisi. St Francis was known to be a softhearted lover of nature; thus, Pope Francis adroitly implied that he would be similarly unassuming, kind, and harmless. Then following his election, he paid his own hotel bill for his stay during the enclave. He then took up residence, not in the usual papal apartments, but rather in a smaller more humble suite. On the other hand, from his first speech and subsequent presentations, he has shown himself as a totalitarian dictator. Thus, as the media and many ecumenical Evangelicals fawn over Pope Francis, it is necessary to biblically analyze his speeches and performances. The mind boggling conclusions are documented in the attached article. Read more

Will we never learn?

As one who has vivid memories of the Terence O’Neill campaign against Bible Protestantism in the early and mid-60s, I see much that is reminiscent of that time of betrayal, which was seeded by the foolish notions of the ecumenical church leaders back then. Read more

When lightning flashes this is not what you want to see!

This is a picture that someone took who works on an oil rig. He was going to take a picture of the lightning and was unaware of the tornado until the lightning illuminated it.

This picture, sent to me by my friend Ralph Ovadal, is a wonderful illustration of the great mercy of God to careless unthinking sinners.

This lightning flash is so like that flash of divine light which shows the sinner the danger he faces, the danger he was utterly unaware of until that light from heaven shone down and in a moment informed him of that which the witness of friends had been unable to get across.

Stealing away our children“How are the mighty fallen, and the weapons of war perished!” 2 Samuel 1:27.

The following article – “Stealing away our children” – was produced by the Presbytery Education Board and circulated amongst Free Presbyterians some 25 years ago. The government proposals it exposed were greatly stymied and resisted so that they never truly got off the ground as it was hoped, chiefly because they were opposed in the educational and political arena by Free Presbyterians loyal to the teaching of the Word of God. However, those very proposals form the bedrock of what it is that the Democratic Unionist Party has now embraced and which it would have Ulster Protestant parents adopt with open arms. Read more

When Elijah comes

“Elias Truly Shall First Come” (Matthew 17:11). Thus spake Immanuel, the Greatest of all the Prophets, reminding us of the certainty that Elijah shall come again to the earth before the Lord returns in glory. Few realise the wondrous fact that Elijah is coming in the weakness of the flesh, though with super-natural powers, to testify to the truth of thee Scriptures in the last days. The coming of Elijah is mentioned several times in the Scriptures. In Malachi we find the plain and clear statement that Elijah shall come before the Lord Jesus is revealed in judgment (Malachi 4:5). The disciples believed, though they did not then fully understand this Scripture. Therefore they were perplexed, and asked the Lord, in effect, “As Thou art the Christ, why has not Elijah first come?” They were not then able to distinguish clearly between the first and second comings of the Lord. Separation or Integration – Which is God’s plan?

The Democratic Unionist Party, in its ongoing mutation from orthodox unionist party to the vanguard of the ecumenical thrust in Ulster, has become the champion of Integrated Education

…Sadly, indeed, tragically, the whole mish-mash of ecumenical deception has been embraced and endorsed by some Free Presbyterians, who, in utterly blind and stupid devotion to the DUP, have abandoned the Biblical principles undergirding Free Presbyterianism. Read more

“Impartial Reporter”, Enniskillen runs story with outrageous headline.

The “Impartial Reporter”, based in Enniskillen, Co. Fermanagh and dating back to 1825, is deemed a family newspaper. It breached that status in its 5th June 2013 edition when it used the words of a foul-mouthed drunken lout as its headline for an article on the incident in which the lout was being questioned by the police regarding drunken driving.

Anyone who has read the newspaper will know the article in question.

Rev Ivan Foster emailed Mr Denzil McDaniels, the Editor to complain about the offensive headline and has also lodged a complaint with the Press Complaints Commission. Here is the email he sent with the link to the article removed for the sake of decency. Read more

The Renewal of the Near East

A Lecture given at Mildmay Conference Centre By B. W Newton, dating back to the mid-1850s (Reproduced from “Watching and Waiting” magazine, August 1937)

My object is to show that both these chapters (Isaiah 13 and 14) in their completeness have not yet been fulfilled! It is generally assumed that they have been; therefore, it is important to know the grounds for the assertion that they are unfulfilled. You will observe that in chapter 13, A City — Babylon — is chiefly considered. In chapter 14, A Person — Antichrist — the king of that City. Read more

Why We Believe in Total Depravity

A message preached by Rev Ivan Foster at a Sovereign Grace Advent Testimony meeting, London, May 24th, 2013.

“And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man,” Mark 7:20-23.

Rev Robert Ormerod dies in sad circumstances

“One day we will all see him again because we will all see him in heaven” – his son Timothy

Robert_OrmerodLong-serving Free Presbyterian minister from Northern Ireland has died in an accident on the M6 in the north of England. The Rev Robert Ormerod, minister of Cloughmills Free Presbyterian Church, was driving between visits to family members in Birmingham and Coventry yesterday when he suddenly took ill.
Speaking on behalf of his devastated family, the Rev Ormerod’s son Timothy last night said they were all in complete shock. “He had a heart attack and died at the wheel while driving,” he said. “The biggest thing we can hold to is that he is in heaven, he’s a saved man, we can rest assured that whatever pain and suffering he had, there is none now because he is in heaven with Jesus. “And one day we will all see him again because we will all see him in heaven.”
The Rev Ormerod served as minister of Cloughmills Free Presbyterian Church for more than 30 years. He also served as the Convenor of Government and Morals Committee within the Free Presbyterian Church.
He is survived by his wife Julie, their sons Jonathan and Timothy, and daughters Naomi, Hannah and Danielle. All who knew and appreciated his labours as a minister and as the Convenor of Government and Morals Committee will miss his witness in the Presbytery and the wider church.

Rev. Foster’s radio broadcasts on Q101.2 FM Omagh during May.

The Let the Bible Speak broadcast on this station goes out at 9:15 a.m. each Sunday morning. Tune in this Sunday!

If you missed the live broadcasts you can listen to an archived version of the programmes.

To listen to a live stream of this broadcast, Click here.

separation_leafletThe Presbytery of the Free Presbyterian Church of Ulster reaffirms its position on Biblical separation

Calls for separation from apostasy and from those “brethren who maintain fellowship with those who deny the faith”.

Our glorious hope

by Alan Toms.

Believers are promised special strength for those days (known as the ‘Great Tribulation’ and also as ‘The Time of Jacob’s Trouble’, for Israel will suffer too). In fact, I believe it is when Israel’s suffering is at its height and Jerusalem is at the point of final destruction that the Lord will appear to deliver her and bring peace to the earth. This is not the ‘end of the world’ but the time when the Lord Jesus takes His place as King of the Jews and all nations for one thousand years. This is known as the Millennium. After this age the Judgment of the Great White Throne will take place and then the world as we know it will be destroyed.

Israel’s Messiah King

A study in Psalm 45. A message preached by Rev Ivan Foster at the Sovereign Grace Advent Testimony evening meeting in London, 23rd April, 2010. There is a natural sequence from the close of the previous Psalm 44 (see previous article) to the opening of this Psalm 45. Psalm 44 ends with Israel crying upon the Lord to arise to the aid of His people as they face destruction under Antichrist. “Arise for our help, and redeem us for thy mercies’ sake,” Psalm 44:26. This Psalm 45 carries us even further into the future than did the previous. In this psalm the Saviour has come and it is no longer Antichrist who is reigning. Christ has taken unto Himself His great power and rules and reigns amongst the kingdoms of this world.

Israel’s time of trouble under Antichrist

A study in Psalm 44. This is a familiar psalm, the contents of which have provided much support and comfort to the people of God in this New Testament era as the Church of Christ has appropriated this psalm to itself. What truth there is in verses 1-8.

Democracy versus God

  • Democracy may be defined as “popular government by the will of the people.”
  • Given that the will of man is fallen and depraved as a result of Adam’s transgression, it will be easily seen that a clash with the mind and will of Jehovah is inevitable.
  • The final conflict in this world will be between the will of the people and the will of God.

Biblical separation and “platform fellowship”

“Platform fellowship’ is a phrase coined to describe the artificial distinction some see in the relationship, or fellowship, experienced among participants in a conference situation. Sometimes this conference scenario primarily involves preaching, while in others it is primarily academic in nature. However, when a conference is theological or involves handling the truth of God in any form, it cannot simply be regarded as academic, whether it involves preachers or seminarians. A step forward or a leap backward

House of commons’ vote on sodomite marriage

‘ . . . this is an important step forward for our country.’ – David Cameron, Prime Minister and leader of the Conservative Party.

We will look back on today as a landmark for equality in Britain.’ – Nick Clegg, Deputy Prime Minister and leader of the Liberal Democrats.

‘ . . this Bill is about one thing—fairness.’ – Maria Miller, the Minister for Women and Equalities who moved the motion for the government.

The debate last night in the House of Commons demonstrates clearly the character of the leadership this nation endures. What fools dominate the Westminster Parliament! The decision made last night does not take England and Wales forward but backward. Backward to the days of darkness out of which the Word of God, defied and discarded last night, delivered us in times past. This is a not a step toward justice and fairness. Rather it is a trampling of truth and righteousness underfoot. The just and fair views of those who perceive sodomy as it is characterised by God in His Word are today classified at best as archaic and at the worst as unlawful. Click here to read the article

Can We Take the Prophecies Literally?

This article by Mr Thomas Houghton appeared in the April/May 2006, edition of the Watching and Waiting magazine, published by the Sovereign Grace Advent Testimony, though the article was penned well over 60 years ago. Time has not diminished the relevancy of it’s message. If there ever was a need for God’s people to take heed to the prophecies of God Word it is now.

For too long, an interpretation has been placed upon such Scriptures that makes what God says to be so general and unspecific, so vague and unfocused, as to be almost meaningless as far as their usefulness in our understanding of the times is concerned. Such prophecies were intended as signs (warnings, portents). If they are not understood literally of what use are they? What purpose can they serve in the future?

Mr Houghton shows how prophecy served God’s people in the past and therefore how we may expect them to serve us today and in the future. Here is a timely word for God’s people today. Click here to read the article.
